Tip of the Month - September 2016

As a parent, your child's health is very important and that includes dental health.  Many parents often ask when they should start bringing their child to the dentist.  The answer is no later than their first birthday.  This may surprise you.  You may be thinking, "That is way too young, there is no way my child will cooperate" or "They won't do well and that experience will stick with them forever".  Neither of these are true.  In fact, a majority of our little ones as young as 1-2 years of age, cooperate much better than those whose parents wait until they are 3-4 years of age.  Even if your child does cry, which is normal and appropriate, it becomes easier as they grow up and they become comfortable with someone else brushing and counting their teeth.  It also starts good oral health habits very early.  Parents and children learn at these visits what is necessary for their teeth to be healthy at home.

Preparing your child for this visit is as simple as reading them a book about the dentist or having them watch their favorite character go to the dentist.  Lots of parents report great results for their children with watching Dora go to her first dental visit or Doc McStuffins.  Whatever method you choose, make sure it's a positive one.  Even though you as an adult may have had an unfavorable dental experience or have dental anxiety, there is no need for your child to start their dental experience with nothing less than a positive experience.

As a pediatric dental practice, our team is available to answer any questionsyou may have about your child and their first visit.  Feel free to contact our office at any time for questions or advice.

A Note From the Business Office

When you check in for appointments, please be sure to let a receptionist know if there have been any changes to your dental insurance.  Even a new group number through the same provider must be updated in order to process claims.  The high quality services we provide are based upon the American Dental Association and American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry accepted standards of care to meet the dental needs of our patients.
Periodic preventive appointments include an oral exam, cleaning, fluoride treatment and any necessary x-rays.  These services may or may not be "covered" by your dental insurance plan at each visit.  Please be aware of your coverage and benefits under your policy.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Thank YOU!

We would like to give a big thank you to our families in the practice for referring their families and friends to us!  We appreciate the trust and confidence you have in us.
