As we eagerly await for Spring to arrive we hope all our patients, parents and friends have successfully braved this most challenging winter. We would like to remind our families that if they are considering Spring Break appointments, our schedule is filling up quickly.

Declaring War on Tooth Bugs!

To combat the rising number of cavities (tooth decay) in very young children the American Dental Association and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry through extensive investigation and scientific studies have recommended the following:
  • For children younger than 3 years, caregivers should begin brushing children's teeth as soon as they begin to come into the mouth by using fluoride toothpaste in an amount no more than a smear or the size of a grain of rice.
  • For children 3-6 years of age, caregivers should dispense no more than a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste.
The Council stated, "This regimen is intended to maximize the caries-preventive benefits of fluoride while while further reducing the risk of developing fluorosis when compared to the previous recommendations." The complete systematic review is published in the February 2014 issue of the Journal of the American Dental Association.

Our doctors recommend continued parental assistance up to the age of 8 years old.

National Children's Dental Health Month
February was National Children's Dental Health Month.  The CDG team went to day care facilities, early learning centers and grade schools to give our award winning pressentation on the importance of having good dental health through daily brushing, flossing and nutrition.

This year the CDG team made presentations at over 20 schools with more than 1000 children attending.  We truly enjoy the eagerness the children show when learning!

From The Business Office

In the business office we try to keep as current as is practical on our patient's insurance information.  However, with all the changes in health and dental coverage, it is not possible to have all dental insurance coverage details on file for every one of our patients.  Please make sure you are aware of your own dental benefits and limitations.  Our doctors may need to take x-rays or do other medically necessary procedures.  If we do not have your particular plan coverage details already on file - it may not be possible to get this from your insurance carrier within the time frame of your child's appointment.  Your child's dental health is our utmost priority.

Thank you for referring your friends and families children to our practice.  We appreciate the trust and confidence you have in us!
Sincerely,
Paul D. Herer, Melissa J. Patenio,  Leila C. Younger and the rest of the CDG team
