Image: Resident Archivist Beth McDonald shows off the Ephemera Collection that she will be processing and rehousing (September 2015)

Did you know that the Museum received a grant that enables us to host a Resident Archivist for three months? This grant, funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), and hosted by the LA As Subject organization, provides opportunities for early-career librarians to gain experience in the archives profession. Our Resident Archivist, Beth McDonald, is a recent graduate of UCLA with an MLIS specializing in Archival Studies. She is busy working on processing the Ephemera Collection and creating access to it with an online finding aid. Please stop by and say hi!

Fakes, Frauds, & Forgeries: You Get What You Inspect, Not What You Expect
Thursday, October 15, 6:30pm

Over the span of decades, John Moran Auctioneers, Inc. has handled almost every conceivable object. In the course of his career, Jeff Moran, Senior Vice President, and his colleagues have documented certain objects that were not quite what they appeared to be. Join us for an hour long discussion, as Moran peels back the layers of case studies in fakes and forgeries he has identified and selected to share. Moran will introduce methods, tools, and other technologies used today to help ferret out the fakes, frauds, and forgeries. This lecture will address the importance of the 'gut feeling' buttressed by formal investigative methods that all create the bedrock of modern-day connoisseurship.

Tickets: Members $15; General $20. Advanced reservations required; tickets can be purchased online, or by calling 1.800.838.3006, ext. 1.
Tickets include entrance to the Exhibition Galleries starting at 6:00 pm and a wine and cheese reception.

Fabulous Fashion - Decades of Change: 1890s, 1920s, & 1950s
Kathryne Beynon Foundation Exhibition Hall
Opens on October 9 for ArtNight Pasadena!

From the uncomfortable corsets and ornate bodices of the 1890s to the deconstructed freedom of the 1920s to the full skirts and bullet bras of the 1950s, fashion trends in Pasadena followed the rest of the country.

This exhibition highlights women's clothing worn from morning to night, comparing these three memorable decades. Over 40 exquisite garments from Pasadena Museum of History's extensive Costume and Textile Collection, plus period accessories and household objects, will be featured.

Fabulous Fashion is curated by Dr. Elizabeth Smalley and Suzanne Ehrmann with assistance from Elissa De Angelo, Roberta Dumas, Sheryl Peters, and Susan Stevens. A special introduction has been composed by Ann Erdman.

The exhibition is made possible in part by the Pasadena Arts & Culture Commission and the City of Pasadena Cultural Affairs Division. Fabulous Fashion is also supported by French Hand Laundry, PMH's Textile Arts Council, Style on Green, High Low Vintage, New Moon Textiles, Roberta Dumas, Suzanne Ehrmann, Elissa De Angelo, Dr. Elizabeth Smalley, Susan Stevens, and Ann Wallace.
