Image: The Honker, 1954. Photo by J. Allen Hawkins (Hawkins Collection, #10274)

This photograph shows the bar at The Honker restaurant, presumably decorated for Valentine's Day. The Honker, located at 897 Granite Drive, is listed in the city directories from 1951 through 1971. In 1973, the restaurant listed at that address is The Chronicle.  When Chef Joachim Splichal opened a restaurant at the location in 1997, he named it
Pinot at the Chronicle in honor of the previous eatery. The last restaurant at that location was Madre's, a celebrity-owned restaurant featuring Latin cuisine, that operated from 2002 to 2008.
