Image: The Picture Bridge at the Huntington Hotel, circa 1940 (Postcard Collection)
During the Great Depression, the Huntington Hotel's manager Steven Royce commissioned Pasadena artist Frank Moore (1877-1967) to paint forty original oil paintings depicting California scenes. These were installed on the iconic Picture Bridge in the gardens of the hotel in 1933. The Langham Huntington recently restored the Picture Bridge and will install reproductions of the original paintings later this year.
One of the original panels from the Picture Bridge is on view through September 14 in the Crown City Jubilee exhibit.
