I Do! I Do! Pasadena Ties the Knot
Part II: 1950 to Present Day
Open through November 3
Wedding gowns by legendary designers move into the spotlight in the exhibition I Do! I Do! Part II, the sequel to the Museum's immensely popular survey of wedding fashions from the previous century, which was presented earlier this year. The gowns in Part II - borrowed from local residents, bridal shops, and designers - were chosen because they define specific styles and together create a chronology of wedding dress history decade by decade from 1950 to present day. These styles, which have been largely determined by designers, may change through the years, but at the height of its popularity each dress represents a momentary standard of what a bride should look like.
The sumptuous bridal creations on display include the first-ever wedding gown purchased at Bullock's Pasadena, a William Cahill creation, and the gown of Carolyn Knight Weedman, daughter of the thirty-first governor of California, who was wed in the Governor's Mansion. Local women, including Holly Davis, Jennifer DeVoll, Karen Hackett, and Ann-Marie Villicana share photos and memories of their weddings. Personal stories, formal portraits, wedding announcements, and other ephemera accompany the over thirty gowns on view.
