District Calendar Revised
The BOE has approved the following calendar revisions to make up for emergency closings:
- All schools will now be OPEN on Martin Luther King Day, Jan. 21.
- All schools will now be OPEN with EARLY DISMISSAL FOR STUDENTS on Feb. 14 & 15. (The full-day staff in-service is changed to a half-day.)
- The High School & Middle School will now be OPEN on President's Day, Feb. 18 to make up for additional days lost there.
- Elementary Schools will still be CLOSED on President's Day, Feb. 18.
- All schools will now be OPEN on April 1.
- The last day of school will now be June 17.
All of these revisions have been made to our district web calendar. Please remember that additional days could still be added if we have more emergency closings. |

Mr. Scharibone is NJ Exemplary Elementary Educator
Music teacher Thomas Scharibone is the recipient of a 2012 NJ Exemplary Elementary Educator award, which was presented to him by Whiting School Principal, Dr. Frances Scudese, at the December 12, 2012 BOE meeting. Scharibone holds dual roles in the district, as Whiting School's music teacher and the district's elementary band director/instrumental music instructor. Scudese nominated Scharibone for the state Dept. of Education award, which recognizes teachers who have demonstrated exceptional teaching and leadership abilities. [read more]

OceanFirst Presents $15K Grant Check to Whiting School at BOE Meeting
Kathy Durante of the OceanFirst Foundation presented Whiting School Principal, Dr. Frances Scudese, with a $15,000 Model Classroom grant check at the December BOE meeting.
The grant is for the school's Ultimate Learning Center project.The project will transform the school's old computer lab into a state of the art electronic learning center with wireless technology, at least 10 Apple iPads, and an Epsom Brightlink projector. [read more]

New Principal for Regional Day School
The Board of Educatioin appointed Lisa Michallis as the new Principal of Regional Day School at their December meeting. Ms. Michallis will replace Mr. Ralph Lotierzo, who is retiring.
Ms. Michallis has served as Learning Disabilities Teacher-Consultant at Regional Day for the past two and half years and was last year's Regional Day School Teacher of the Year. She has over 18 years of experience, previously serving as a Learning Consultant in Freehold Township and Coordinator of Special Education in South River.
Superintendent David Trethaway congratulated Ms. Michallis and thanked Mr. Lotierzo for all he has done for Regional Day and for the Manchester School District. |
