~Douglas Everett

Prayer

"Dear God,

May all the changes that would shift this world
away from sorrow and into peace;

away from violence and into love;  away from darkness and into light; now happen.

Not later, now."

Making change just for the sake of change is not useful, But when the time is right, change can be invigorating and transforming. This month's theme is 'Change for the Better'.

                     Enjoy! ~ Sharon

Change for the Better

Moving toward change for the better in our own lives or in the life of the communities in which we participate can be invigorating and life renewing. But there is no doubt about it: making change can be very tricky business. Being able to clearly define motivation, goals and strategy is integral to the successful navigation of the change process.

Be intentional about laying the necessary groundwork. Whether you are considering a personal lifestyle shift, professional transition, or leading in the capacity of change agent for a larger group in need of revitalization, it is helpful to consider the stages and clarifying questions below.

Motivation and Goals:

  • Where are you now and where do you want to be?
  • What do you really want your life (or work, community effort, church) to look like?
  • How will things be better if changes are made?
  • What are the risks associated with the possible changes?
  • What are the risks associated with not making any changes?
  • Are you (we) ready to take charge of the situation and move toward engaging life in a new way?

Develop a Strategy:

  • What needs to be done differently for you to move forward toward your vision?
  • What is the change that you believe will bring the most effective result?
  • What are the elements of the change that need to be communicated and/or negotiated?
  • With who? How?
  • What is your timeline?
  • How will you be held accountable to your commitment?
  • How will you know that you have accomplished what you want to accomplish?

Engage :

Embrace the process and enjoy the journey! Making change for the better  involves significant effort. But, the results will be worth it!
