Research shows that adults who invest time and energy in lifelong learning are happier and more satisfied with life. In support of that, this month's theme is 'Thrive'.

Thrive

When we ponder furthering our education, we have a wide range of options. We don't need the privilege of an extended study leave or significant financial resources to be involved in life-long learning. Though working on an advanced degree at a formal institution will be the best path for some, most of us can be invigorated by an intentional exploration of a field of study that is new or intriguing to us. It can come in the form of online work, a peer learning group, a professional conference, a community organization or a thematic training event. What is essential for thriving is not necessarily the broad expansion of our knowledge base, but the opportunity to think about something different or ... differently. The goal is to instigate a spark in our neural pathways.

It can be fruitful to focus on a topic that resonates with a personal interest, even if it seems to have little or no application in our present work. It may be related to a hobby or avocation or another professional field entirely. Just by engaging our minds in fresh ways we begin to feel better: more creative, more thoughtful, more connected to a larger community.

Learning is part of living abundantly. Make a choice to thrive!

  • Is there a specific topic or field of study that interests you?
  • Are you curious about education (or even credentialing) in another professional field?
  • What is holding you back?
  • What would it take for you to move forward?
