Creativity
September 2013

The future of the Church lies in our desire and ability to play with new models and paradigms for Christian expression.  So this month's theme is 'Creativity'.
     Enjoy!

Creativity

 "Be Creative!"  In an attempt to navigate what it takes to be a vibrant faith community in modern times, many of us in church leadership are yearning to figure out what it actually means to 'be creative'. We may feel that our ability to tap into a deep well of imagination is thwarted by institutional mandates to maintain theological correctness, be sensitive to what is deemed  appropriate by our present membership and devote time and energy to keeping track of metrics. How can we 'be creative' when we are too busy, worn out and beat up?

'Being creative' is a way of life that is grounded in the ever-present yet ever-surprising movement of the Spirit. It requires a daily rhythm that includes quiet-time, allowing for imaginative pondering and the emergence of fresh ideas. The creative life involves not only a deep yearning for revival, but the intentional designing of our schedules so that we are regularly liberated to think differently. Most significantly, 'being creative' involves an unflinching willingness to experiment and fail.

How can you shift your own mindset and lifestyle so as to allow a new kind of creativity to infuse your ministry?

Handy Guide

Pastors, church staff members, and dedicated volunteers are often disappointed to find that leadership in a local church can actually work against life balance and spiritual growth. Even so, there is a way to obtain a sense of well-being while continuing to be fully engaged in ministry. Keeping Your Balance: Seven Strategies for Remaining Steady in the Midst of Church Life provides simple strategies for those who are busy with an active, sometimes hectic church life, yet have a yearning for personal gratification and inner peace in the midst of their work. Author, coach, and ordained minister Sharon L. Vandegrift draws on her experiences to show that there is more to church leadership than busyness. Designed as a resource, this handy guide will assist professional and volunteer leaders to live out their passion for church work while discovering ways to care for themselves, be intentional about life balance, and move forward on their faith journeys. Keeping Your Balance is available in paperback or Ebook form through Amazon or your favorite on-line book seller.

Quotes and Prayer
woman praying

"Enlightened leadership is spiritual if we understand spirituality not as some kind of religious dogma or ideology but as the domain of awareness where we experience values like truth, goodness, beauty, love and compassion, and also intuition, creativity, insight and focused attention."
~Deepak Chopra

~~~~~~
"Lord,
drown out our noise
in the thunder of your silence.
Wash away these chattering thoughts
in the sea roar of your wordless presence.
Erase our shouts and incantations,
the carnival barkers of my prayers.
Flood me with the river of you,
water up to ceilings, houses carried off.
Saturate this world with your silence
and hide it in every little thing."
~Steve Garnaas-Holmes
