June 2013
Greetings!

The more laid back rhythm of June may provide an opportunity to take a deep breath and gain perspective on where you have been, where you are now and where you are going. This month I encourage you to embrace summertime!
     Enjoy!

Summertime

We frequently find ourselves immersed in a frenzy of multiple commitments and projects as we attempt to bear an enormous load of responsibility. It is easy to lose a healthy perspective regarding what is really happening in our midst. When everything begins to seem urgent, and prioritizing seems impossible, the intense swirl of life can feel unmanageable. It is time for a break!

Summertime often affords us the chance to step back and breathe - both figuratively and literally. Intentional breathing can provide an important pause in the midst of a stressful day or a challenging situation.  A few seconds of pause and deep breathing have the power to afford us a brand new perspective. And fresh perspective means we can become much more effective and efficient in dealing with the issues at hand.

  • What are the indicators in your life that highlight the need to breathe?
  • How might you pause and breathe during the summer months?
  • How might you use breathing opportunities to develop a greater sense perspective?

Query for the Coach

Dear Sharon,

My church leadership team made a decision last fall to begin a visioning process. Less than a week after that the lay leader - who was involved in EVERYTHING-  died very suddenly. We had an amazing memorial service and spent weeks talking about him. I feel good about how I helped the church with their sadness over this huge loss. But then, during the winter we had trouble with our computers, the parking lot caved in and the furnace broke down. We focused our energy on raising money and getting things fixed. It was a very stressful year. It seemed like a new problem came up each week. Now I look back over the year and realize that we have been dealing with big problems for months and I am exhausted. I never did anything about a visioning process and to be honest, I just don't have the energy for it right now. But I am feeling guilty about not doing anything.  I don't know what I should do next. Is it just bad leadership to let it go a few more months? Please tell me it is okay to take a break! I need it!

"O God,
That we can glimpse you within creation is a beautiful thought but also tells us that you desire to be seen,
to be found and known. Open our eyes, as we walk through this world, feel the wind and sunshine, see the majesty of creation unfolding before our eyes. Help us to see you." ~
