Anticipation

Quote Of the Month

"An intense anticipation itself transforms possibility into reality; our desire being often but precursors of the things which we are capable of performing."

~Samuel Smiles

Prayer for
The Month

"O God, we are sometimes overwhelmed by the awe, the wonder and the mystery of your presence in our lives.

 And so we wait...
in patience...
in expectation... in
alertness...
in anticipation.

We sense that you are very near, and we await those holy moments when your love and light fill us with radiance and hope.

Make ready our hearts to accept the gift of new life that is struggling to be born all around us."

~Susan Gregg-Schroeder

Anticipation

When we are teenagers and young adults we generally put time and energy into engaging the question: 'What will my future look like?' By the time we move into the next season of life, we often abandon the question and stop anticipating a tomorrow that is different from today. We can get bogged down in the load of responsibility that comes with full-on adulthood. We may find ourselves tied up in the burdens of demanding professional lives, children, financial obligations, aging parents and the many other commitments that seem to extract energy from us. Though some experience these years as a time of deep contentment, many begin to feel stuck. The lack of engagement in the process of hopeful anticipation can leave us exhausted, disappointed, defeated and alienated from our true, authentic selves. If you know this experience, you know that it is time to re-claim a vision for your life.

The good news is that we can regain the delight inherent in anticipation simply and powerfully by being intentional. Each of us has the power to decide that it is time to re-engage the questions that create in us an optimistic curiosity about our future. By being attentive to our heart-felt yearnings and re-connecting to our God-given gifts and talents, we can begin to craft an exciting and enticing new vision that will lead us into the next season of our lives.

  • What would you like your future to look like?
  • How will you make that happen?
  • Is there a gift, talent, skill or desire deep within you that has been in hiding?
  • How will you coax it forth?
  • What decisions can you make today to move you forward toward the life you really want?
