For 6 months of the liturgical year we retrace the story of Jesus--from anticipating his arrival to celebrating his birth and ministry to making sense of his death, resurrection, and ascension. During the season after Pentecost, we ponder the question: If Jesus is the Christ, then who are we? We invite you to seek answers through the many spiritual, educational, musical, and ministry opportunities at St. Philip's.
If you know of someone who might like to receive these e-updates, feel free to use the "forward to a friend" link to share the newsletter with them! That doesn't add them to any lists but gives them the opportunity to choose to subscribe.
We hope this e-letter is a useful tool in connecting and staying connected with our St. Philip's community!

Welcome to Our New Rector
Our new Rector, the Rev. Robert J. Hendrickson III, began at St. Philip's this week. On Sunday, August 7, he will celebrate at all services. At 10:15 a.m. there will be a special "welcome" reception in the Murphey Gallery. Next Sunday, August 14, he will preach at all morning services. On the 14th we will be celebrating the Feast of St. Mary the Virgin. Fr. Hendrickson was interviewed by parishioner Bill Buckmaster on Wednesday, August 3, on the Buckmaster Show. You can listen here (Robert's interview is at about the 30-minute mark). Children's Art Show
Also on Sunday morning at 10:15 a.m., in conjunction with the welcome reception, there will be an opening reception for the children's artwork that is hanging in the West Gallery. The eight pieces of art were painted by the children, blessed by Interim Rector Canon Clark, and displayed as icons at each station for the Children's Way of the Cross Service held on Good Friday back in March. Watch for an article in the AZ Star, probably this Saturday, August 6, about the icons and what they mean. UA Summer Lecture Series Begins Sunday
The University of Arizona Division for Late Medieval and Reformation Studies joins with St. Philip's to present their annual summer lecture series, "European Catholicism in the Late Middle Ages," on Sundays in August beginning August 7, at 10:15 a.m. in the Music Center. Characterized by great turmoil, the Late Middle Ages was a period of religious diversity and vitality. The four lectures will probe the wide variety of beliefs and practices held by clergy and laity in Europe before the age of the Protestant Reformation. The series will explore: Prophecy, Prayer, and Penance: Lay Religiosity and Catholicism in Fifteenth-Century Germany (August 7; presented by Adam Bonikowske, doctoral student); Catholic Orders in Late Medieval Germany (August 14; presented by David Neufeld, doctoral student); Catholics and Lollards in Late Medieval England (August 21; presented by Annie Morphew, master's student); and Jan Hus and the Vigor of Late Medieval Catholicism in Bohemia (August 28; presented by Benjamin Miller, master's student). These lectures provide a unique opporunity for scholars training in the field to prepare a project and present their work to a large audience at St. Philip's, assisting these students in their graduate careers. You are invited to attend and help support these future scholars of Reformation history. Read more here.
