For 6 months of the liturgical year we retrace the story of Jesus--from anticipating his arrival to celebrating his birth and ministry to making sense of his death, resurrection, and ascension. During the season after Pentecost, we ponder the question: If Jesus is the Christ, then who are we? We invite you to seek answers through the many spiritual, educational, musical, and ministry opportunities at St. Philip's.
If you know of someone who might like to receive these e-updates, feel free to use the "forward to a friend" link to share the newsletter with them! That doesn't add them to any lists but gives them the opportunity to choose to subscribe.
We hope this e-letter is a useful tool in connecting and staying connected with our St. Philip's community!

Next Week
|
Please join us on Wednesday, July 13, at 7 p.m., for a special Solemn Choral Evensong at St. Philip's, on the eve of the UK residency of our St. Nicholas Youth Choir and Schola Cantorum adults. Music will include repertoire to be sung at the historic Worcester Cathedral, including Britten's powerful "Rejoice in the Lamb." A reception follows to bid our choir "safe journey" and to celebrate the ministry of our Director of Music, Woosug Kang.
Casa Maria Food Preparation The next Casa Maria sandwich making event will be on Saturday, July 16, beginning at 7:30 a.m. in the East Gallery. With our winter Arizonans gone, we need lots of volunteers to help support our neighbors in need.
Parish Potluck Hospitality The next Parish Potluck Hospitality Table will be on July 17, hosted by parishioners whose last names begin with A-F. For families who choose to participate, it is suggested that you bring food in three categories: 1. Sweet Treats; 2. Healthy Snacks (fruit, cheese, whole grain breads, low calorie muffins, gluten or peanut free snacks, etc.); 3. "Kid Friendly Snacks." If possible, food contributions should be at the table shortly after the 7:45 service so people attending that service can enjoy the food and hospitality.

Three Staff Goodbyes This Summer
|
St. Philip's will say farewell to three staff members this summer. The Rev. Canon Frank H. Clark, our Interim Rector and Search Consultant, will conclude his year with us on Sunday, July 31. Woosug Kang, Director of Music, has accepted a position as Director of Music Ministry at St. George's Episcopal Church in Nashville, Tennessee, beginning mid-August. And Binh Tran, Head Sexton, will retire at the end of July after 26 years of service to St. Philip's.
We will celebrate Binh's ministry at St. Philip's at a special Coffee Hour on Sunday, July 24, at 10:15 a.m. in the Murphey Gallery. You can tell him "thank you" in person at that time. In addition, a book of letters will be presented to him. If you would like to write him a letter of appreciation, please do so on 8.5 x 11 paper (unfolded) and place it in the special receptacle in the office (or mail it, unfolded, to St. Philip's In The Hills Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 65840, Tucson, AZ 85728-5840). Binh will also be presented with a purse from the parish. If you would like to make a contribution, please make your check payable to St. Philip's with "Binh Tran Retirement" on the memo line. Gifts can also be made electronically under the "support" button on St. Philip's web site (choose "Special Gifts" and put "Binh Tran" in the comments).

Education for Ministry (EfM)
Are you looking to enrich your spiritual life and expand your understanding of the fundamentals of our faith? Would you like to be more deeply involved in lay ministry? Do you hunger for a more serious Bible study than the short dip most of us get in Adult forums or Bible study? The Education for Ministry program (EfM) has helped more than 80,000 people like you deepen their knowledge and express their faith in their day-to- day lives. St. Philip's EfM program meets Tuesday evenings, Sept. 13 through May. Brochures are available in the back of the church, the newcomer station, and the parish office. Stop by our EfM table this summer during Sunday morning fellowship time and talk to EfM mentors Mary and Howell Herring and current EfM students at St. Philip's (Charles Bloeser, Wayne Fulton, Leslie Holmes, Connie Pickering Mimi Villafane). For more information contact EfM@stphilipstucson.org.

Service in the Altar Guild is an educational and spiritual exercise and richly rewarding in our sense of community and care for each other. All - men or women, young or old - may have a vocation for Altar Guild service. We have work days on Saturdays as well as weekdays. New members receive hands-on training and mentoring from experienced members. For more information, please contact Directress Pam Henderson or call 529-1747.
