For 6 months of the liturgical year we retrace the story of Jesus--from anticipating his arrival to celebrating his birth and ministry to making sense of his death, resurrection, and ascension. During the season after Pentecost, we ponder the question: If Jesus is the Christ, then who are we? We invite you to seek answers through the many spiritual, educational, musical, and ministry opportunities at St. Philip's.
If you know of someone who might like to receive these e-updates, feel free to use the "forward to a friend" link to share the newsletter with them! That doesn't add them to any lists but gives them the opportunity to choose to subscribe.
We hope this e-letter is a useful tool in connecting and staying connected with our St. Philip's community!

Wear Orange Tonight
Join Gun Violence Prevention Arizona and Everytown Survivors Network on Thursday, June 2, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at El Presidio Park (160 W. Alameda St.) as they "Light the Night" for a time of reflection, remembrance, and commitment to work together to save lives. National Gun VIolence Awareness Day began in January of 2013, when Hadiya Pendleton was shot and killed in Chicago. She was 15 years old. Her friends chose to remember and honor her on what would have been her 16th birthday, June 2. They chose the color orange, the color that recognizes the sanctity of life, the color worn by hunters to ensure their safety. All are welcome at this time of learning and remembrance.

Special Vestry / Wardens Forum Sunday
The Wardens and Vestry invite you to attend our First Sunday forum at 10:15 a.m. in the Murphey Gallery to learn more about what's going on in the search process for St. Philip's new Rector. With the current heat wave, the hospitality table will be set up in the West Gallery, so come in and cool off, grab a cup of coffee, and hear the latest!
Parish Potluck Hospitality June 5
The Hospitality Table on June 5 will be hosted by parishioners whose last names begin with S-Z. For families who choose to participate, it is suggested that you bring food in three categories: 1. Sweet Treats; 2. Healthy Snacks (fruit, cheese, whole grain breads, low calorie muffins, gluten or peanut free snacks, etc.); 3. "Kid Friendly Snacks." If possible, food contributions should be at the table shortly after the 7:45 service so people attending that service can enjoy the food and hospitality.
First Sunday Food Drive June 5 is the first Sunday of the month, and St. Philip's Food Pantry ministry will be accepting donations of nonperishable food in unbreakable containers. Desired items are canned meat and meat entrees, canned fruit, canned vegetables, canned beans, dried pasta and canned pasta sauce, soup, peanut butter, and cereal. We also gratefully accept checks made out to St. Philip's with "Food Pantry" on the memo line.
Special Mental Illness Ministry Meeting St. Philips' Mental Illness Ministry is reaching out to all professionals and/or ALL who are called to assist us in expanding our ministry of creating a caring congregation for people with mental illness. We will gather at 10:15 a.m. in the Bride's Room. For more information contact the Rev. Anne Strong or call 275-7582.
We will be using Track 1 for the Season after Pentecost 1 Kings 17: 8-24 Psalm 146 Galatians 1: 11-24 Luke 7: 11-17

NEW: Youth Ministry Weekly Fellowship Night
With Memorial Day past we are now officially in summer. As the weather gets hotter, we are also going to spice it up in the Youth Ministry. Starting on Tuesday, June 7, we will have a weekly youth fellowship night where we will come together purely to hang out and have a good time. Our activities will include but are not limited to taking over the world, waging war with water, critiquing recent cinema, and trying to get rid of sheep. The usual suspects are invited. Feel free to bring a friend. Please contact Stuart for more details.

How You Can Help

Ministry Endowment Fund Update
An update on the Ministry Endowment Fund -- The current balance in the Ministry Endowment Fund is approaching $80,000. Our challenge grant donor has agreed to keep the challenge going, and there is still $23,148 available to match your contributions to the Fund. Your gift, large or small, is most appreciated. It's easy to make a gift to the fund and support future ministries at St. Philip's -- just write "Ministry Endowment Fund" in the memo section of your check. You can drop it in the offering basket or mail it to the church office. Many thanks to our most recent donors: Peg Anderson Herb and Sylvia Burton Judy Cavallon Ginny Culhane James and Linda King Susan Kornhaber Page and Sheldon Marks Robert Schoenwetter Ushers Needed at 11:15 Services The St. Philip's usher ministry has a critical need for new ushers to serve at the 11:15 a.m. Sunday service. If you regularly attend at 11:15, please consider joining one of our four usher teams. Ushers greet worshippers, distribute service bulletins, collect the offering and undertake many other tasks to help our services run smoothly. We work as part of a team and serve just once a month. It is a very rewarding ministry! If interested, please contact one of our usher leaders, Mark Woodhams at 529-0765, Jim Prescott Smith at 577-3779, or Bob Stanton at 578-6254. Eucharistic Ministry
In any parish there are those who for some reason are unable to attend church. At St. Philip's we provide Eucharistic Visitor to take the Eucharist to that person on a regular basis as long as the need exists. This is a beautiful behind-the-scenes, quiet ministry in which you receive easily as much or more than you give. Most Eucharistic Visitors visit one or two communicants, usually on Sunday, but often on an alternate day that is more convenient for the recipient. There is a printed order of service designed for this type of communion and a kit which contains consecrated wine and wafers. Training and practice are provided before you set out on your own. There is a very special communication between the Eucharistic Visitor and the parishioner during this lovely service. If you think you might be interested in this ministry, please contact Bob Stanton at 578-6254 or the Rev. Jean Rogers at 299-6421. Casa Maria Lunch Ministry The next Casa Maria sandwich making event will be on Saturday, June 18, beginning at 7:30 a.m. in the East Gallery. With our winter Arizonans gone, we need lots of volunteers to help. Also, we would like to deliver ballcaps (new or used) with the lunches. Please bring them on the 18th and stay to help us help our neighbors in need.
