The next Parish Potluck Hospitality Table will be on April 17, hosted by parishioners whose last names begin with N-R. For families who choose to participate, it is suggested that you bring food in three categories: 1. Sweet Treats; 2. Healthy Snacks (fruit, cheese, whole grain breads, low calorie muffins, gluten or peanut free snacks, etc.); 3. "Kid Friendly Snacks." If possible, food contributions should be at the table shortly after the 7:45 service so people attending that service can enjoy the food and hospitality. Solemn Choral Evensong
Please join us for Solemn Choral Evensong on Sunday, April 17, beginning at 4 p.m. with a brief recital given by Janet Tolman from Christ Church United Methodist, Tucson. At 4:30, the service will feature the Schola Cantorum and St. Nicholas Choir. This candlelit service provides the ideal centering experience of peace and calm to lead you into the Sunday evening before a busy week. Incense will be used. A reception follows the service. "Seasoned" Singles Luncheon this Sunday St. Philip's "Seasoned" Singles will have a luncheon after the 11:15 a.m. service on Sunday, April 17. Join us for lunch and hear some future "field trip" plans from the Planning Committee. RSVP for lunch to Joyce Schumann or call 529-7421. If you have email and would like to receive the more detailed communications from Seasoned Singles, please email Joyce with your information (name, email, phone.)

10:15 a.m.: INTIMACY OF FAITH--East Gallery A special exhibit at the Arizona State Museum, "The Intimacy of Faith," features a collection of Mexican Religious folk art--retablos and ex votos--from the Giffords Family Collection. Beginning in the nineteenth century, testimonies of faith and private devotion in Mexico took the form of oil paintings on small pieces of tin plate that became public displays of the efficacy of a particular saint's protection. In many ways, the freshness and honesty of these retablos and ex-votos convey an intimate vitality that distinguishes itself from the otherwise formal academic style imported from Europe that permeated nineteenth-century Mexican art. Gloria Fraser Giffords, curator, presenting.

St. Philip's Day Celebrates Our Earth
St. Philip's will celebrate our patronal feast day on Sunday, May 1. First Sunday Music at the 9 and 11:15 a.m. services will be Missa Gaia ("Earth Mass") by Paul Winter, presented by St. Philip's adult choirs with an unusual assortment of instruments. This work is in the genre of New Age/Jazz, which incorporates traditional mass texts as well as English texts -- needless to say, it will be very different from our usual First Sunday Music repertoire!
The idea of sharing this work came from the ongoing effort to underscore our role as stewards of the earth's resources. Parishioner Susan Erickson said: "April 22 was Earth Day, and we are celebrating it just a little late. As we listen to this beautiful combination of voices, instruments, and sounds from nature, it will be difficult to imagine a world without nature, without wilderness, without clean air and water. Would you like to explore how, as Christians, we can protect God's creation? The Green Team at St. Philip's is seeking to get back on its feet. There are many 'green issues' to explore, both small- and large-scale. Get inspired by First Sunday music, and help shape a new environmental ministry at St. Philip's! For more information, e-mail Susan Erickson or call 608-287-8406."
Music Ministry is hoping to highlight this worthy cause through our music -- be prepared for some wolf and humpback whale noises on St. Philip's Day!
The celebration continues with festivities in the Plaza. Come enjoy a cookout, fun, fellowship, and games ($10 person/$25 family) as we spend time with each other as the community of St. Philip's In The Hills Parish. We look forward to seeing everyone at this wonderful event.
Fuentes Rojas Embroidery On Display in New York City Embroidered pañuelos, white handkerchiefs stitched by members of Fuentes Rojas / Bordando por la Paz y la Memoria (Red Fountains / Embroidering for Peace and to Remember), will be shown in a large-format exhibition on April 19-21 in New York City. Members of Fuentes Rojas will be on hand embroidering pañuelos and answering questions.
The exhibit is part of the Museum of Drug Policy, a temporary cultural hub organized by SOZE in collaboration with and supported by the Open Society Foundation. It will be presented during the United Nations General Assembly Special Session on Global Drug Policy Reform. The exhibit venue at 245 Park Avenue is located just blocks from the UN and will include art, performances, films, and activations that will uplift the voices of those most impacted by drug policy around the world. Organizers anticipate up to 5,000 visitors at the venue during the three-day event.
Congratulations to the organizers of Fuentes Rojas in Mexico City -- and all the bordadores in Mexico and around the world who stitch for peace and remembrance. For more information, a list of inexpensive and easily available supplies and to receive instruction on how to participate, contact Suzanne, borderimmigrationmin@stphilipstucson.org.
Rector Search Committee Update "What's taking so long to get a new rector? It's been 9 months already!"
Truth be told, the rector search process in the Episcopal Church typically takes 18 months, and St. Philip's is way ahead of schedule. We're on track to call a new rector in July, weeks ahead of the first anniversary of the Rev. Canon John Kitagawa's retirement.
The interview process has begun! The search committee quickly winnowed the field and selected applicants to interview through a video call -- the first one is this weekend. The search committee will complete this first round of interviews over the upcoming week, determine the best qualified candidates for the tasks at hand, then step aside for the vestry to take over the discernment stage of the search process. That is standard procedure for a rector search in the Episcopal Church. The vestry will invite candidates on this short list to interview in person with the vestry and prayerfully seek to answer a relational question: "Can we and this candidate together enter into a relationship with God, to be the people of God and fulfill our Divine purpose?"
Keep apprised of the status of the search process by attending the vestry forums on First Sundays. The next one is May 1, 10:15 a.m. in the Murphey Gallery. Direct questions or concerns to the search committee at search@stphilipstucson.org.
