AGO Organ Showcase Concert Friday
The annual AGO (American Guild of Organists) Showcase, on Friday, November 20, features the Fritts organ at St. Alban's Episcopal Church. Our own Dr. Jeffrey Campbell, along with two other organists from the Southern Arizona chapter, will perform works well fitted to the wonderful coloring of the Fritts, including collaborations with other instruments to explore its chamber qualities. Suggested donation $10. Reception before the concert at 6 p.m.; brief talk and demonstration on the Fritts organ by Stephen Keyl at 6:30, concert at 7 p.m.
Sunday, November 22 In-Gathering Sunday: This Sunday, November 22, will be a full and joyous day! It is In-Gathering Sunday ... when we offer our Estimates of Giving for 2016 to the altar for blessing, in recognition that all things come from God. This will take place at all services. Please bring your completed Estimate of Giving form with you. After the Peace and announcements, Ushers will direct you up the main aisle to the altar in two lines, similar to Communion, where you will offer your Estimates of Giving for 2016 to the baskets which parish leaders will be holding. You will then return to your pews via the side aisles. If you have already sent in your Estimate of Giving to the office, we invite you to take one of the laminated pink plastic cards in the holder on the back of the pew in front of you and place that in the In-Gathering baskets for blessing. God is the Giver from whom all love, grace and abundance flows, thus it is with gratitude that we share our lives with God.
Kirking o' the Tartans: Wear your tartan to the 9 or 11:15 a.m. service, as we celebrate the Scottish heritage of the Episcopal Church. Tartans will be blessed at the conclusion of the service, and the Tucson Highlanders Pipes and Drums will lead the procession to and from the Church. We always appreciate the rousing music they provide in the Plaza afterwards.
Parish Potluck Hospitality: Sunday will be a parish potluck hospitality table, hosted by parishioners whose last names begin with A-F. Coffee Hour will be in the West Gallery Sunday morning. For families who choose to participate, it is suggested that you bring food in three categories: 1. Sweet Treats; 2. Healthy Snacks (fruit, cheese, whole grain breads, low calorie muffins, gluten or peanut free snacks, etc.); 3. "Kid Friendly Snacks." If possible, food contributions should be at the table shortly after the 7:45 service so people attending that service can enjoy the food and hospitality.

Thanksgiving
Make plans to join us for Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 26. Our Thanksgiving Eucharist is at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Ben Garren, Chaplain, UA Episcopal Campus Ministry, providing the sermon. Afterwards join your fellow parishioners for a lovely Thanksgiving dinner hosted by Parish Life (with a twist!). During Coffee Hour you may sign up for the side dish you would like to bring (or call the office at 299-6421).
Advent Is ComingNext Sunday, November 29, is the First Sunday in Advent. Advent is a season of preparation for Christmas. Christians prepare for celebrating the birth of Jesus by remembering the longing of the Jews for a Messiah. In Advent, we're reminded of how much we ourselves also need a Savior, and we look forward to our Savior's second coming even as we prepare to celebrate his first coming at Christmas. The word "Advent" comes from the Latin word adventus, which means "coming" or "visit." In the season with this name, we keep in mind both "advents" of Christ, the first in Bethlehem and the second yet to come. Click here for information about Advent services and other events at St. Philip's.

Annual Children's Christmas Project
Collection for our annual Children's Christmas Project will continue until Christmas. This important ministry provides a Christmas gift of money to the three schools with which St. Philip's has a special relationship: Imago Dei Middle School, and Holaway and Rio Vista Elementary Schools. In Rio Vista and Holaway Schools, more the 90% of the children qualify for federally funded school lunch. Imago Dei, an Episcopal school which provides a quality and loving education entirely from donations, survives through acts of faith from many people and parishes like us. For all three schools, our gifts go, in many cases, to fulfilling the most basic human needs, and in others, making life and the future just a bit better for the children and their families. Last year through this collection St. Philip's was able to give a gift of $2200 to each one of these schools. In her thank you letter to the church the principal of Rio Vista wrote "We have paid for eye exams and glasses, prescriptions, Fry's food cards, bus passes, extra underwear and clothes for the health office and rewards for good attendance with these funds. We always let the families know that it is the generosity of the people of St. Philip's Church that provides the funds to let us help them." Let us once again respond to this need by our generous Christmas giving. Look for the Children's Christmas Project tables in the Perry and Fishpond Gardens Sundays until Christmas to make your contribution. Checks should be made out to St. Philip's with Children's Christmas Project in the memo line. They may also be mailed to the church. Just Coffee for Gift Giving Just coffee will be sold on two Sundays in December so that you can stock up for the holidays. Remember that sale of this coffee directly benefits the growers in Mexico. We are selling on both December 6 and 20. We have half-pound bags of ground regular and decaf ... these might be good Christmas gifts. J2A Poinsettia Sales
The J2A youth group will once again be selling poinsettias this Advent season to raise money for their pilgrimage! Stop by our table in the Fishpond Garden on December 6, 13, or 20 to buy or order your poinsettia. And thank you to parishioners who have already purchased a centerpiece or wreath! J2A Gift Wrapping and Bake Sale Help support the youth as they raise money for their pilgrimage and remove two items from your holiday to-do list! The J2A youth will be holding a bake sale and gift-wrapping fundraiser on Sunday, December 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Stop by our table in the Fishpond Garden to buy delicious, homemade baked goods! Bring gifts that need wrapping to either our table in the Fishpond Garden or to the Palo Verde Room. Your wrapped gifts can be picked up in the Palo Verde Room. The J2A Youth will also be hosting a gift-wrapping fundraiser along with a bake sale on Tuesday, December 22, during the Greening of the Church, 5-7 p.m. Look for us in the Murphey Gallery!

Directory Project Complete
At the annual meeting in January of this year, the subject of a photo directory came up. Lois Britten, Parish Administrator, agreed that there was a need, but from previous experience, she also knew that producing a photo directory was a labor-intensive endeavor involving many volunteers. She said to a small group of interested parishioners that she could facilitate the process, but being new on the staff, she knew no one in the congregation and would need their help in recruiting volunteers. Read more. Photo directory are available for those who had a picture taken (or submitted a photo) for the directory, in the Little Shop on Sunday and between 10 a.m. and noon, Mondays through Thursdays. If you haven't picked up your free 8 x 10 from your photo session, they're available in the church office.
