This Weekend

Blessing of the Animals
Join us at 9 a.m. on Sunday, November 8, to celebrate one of Tucson's favorite Blessing of the Animals services. The service will be held in the church plaza. This observance was begun more than 35 years ago and continues to be one of the most popular events of the church year. It celebrates the loving relationship shared by humans and their pets, with opportunities to give thanks for the blessings animals give to us. Readings and prayers focus on the wonders of our world and our responsibility as humans to be good stewards of God's creation. All types of animals are welcome at this service. Participants are asked to keep their pets appropriately restrained. (This service does not include communion. The usual Rite II Eucharist will take place in the Church, also at 9 a.m.)

Friends of Music Concert

This Sunday, November 8, at 2 p.m. in the Church, Friends of Music presents Ronstadt Generations y Los Tucsonenses. This group continues the legendary musical tradition of the Ronstadt family in Tucson. Led by Michael J. Ronstadt on guitar and voice, with sons Michael G. and Petie, and Alex Flores on tenor sax, Sam Eagon on bass, and Aaron Emery on drums, they will present an exciting repertoire that preserves the traditional Southwestern and Mexican songs of their heritage while offering innovative original material that echoes the "melting pot" of American folk music. Suggested admission is $20.

J2A Greenery Fundraiser
November 8 Only

J2A is offering their annual Christmas Evergreen Fundraiser and is taking advance orders for wreaths on Sunday, November 8, only. Please stop by the Fishpond Garden and we will be happy to place your order. Thank you for your wonderful support of the J2A Pilgrimage and youth.

Pick Up Photo Directories
The photo directories are here! If you had your picture taken or submitted one, you can pick up you free copy on Sunday morning or in the office during the week. If you weren't photographed and didn't submit a photo, we'll be happy to add your name to a waiting list for the remaining copies. We will soon have the photos uploaded to the church database, and we'll be able to print our own, current, photo directories.

Hundreds per year, and thousands over time, have been donated to the Tucson-based Zambian Children's Fund to be shipped to their orphanages. In this forum, Kathe Padilla, founder of ZCF, will talk about her work with children orphaned by AIDS. ZCF is currently raising 90 children and educating 150. The Primary School they opened in 2002 is recognized as one of the best schools in the country and has helped hundreds of orphaned children from all over Zambia with an education and acquiring skills. The Green Team invites you to watch portions of the documentary film "Renewal." This is the first full-length documentary to capture the vitality and diversity of today's religious-environmental activists. From within their Christian, Jewish, Buddhist and Muslim traditions, Americans are becoming caretakers of the earth. With great courage, these women, men and children are re-examining what it means to be human and how we live on this planet. Their stories of combating global warming and the devastation of mountaintop removal, of promoting food security, environmental justice, recycling, land preservation, and of teaching love and respect for life on earth are the heart of this documentary.

Baptistry Compline
This meditative service, on Tuesday evening, November 10, at 6 p.m. in the Baptistry, is a consecrated moment to praise and give thanks to God, to listen to God's words, and to rededicate our life to God for the evening. The prayer service is usually about 20 minutes long. Compline is the last monastic prayer service of the day before the monks retire. The service will be sung in Gregorian chants, but knowledge of how to chant and how to read Gregorian chant notations is not necessary for attendance. Everyone is invited to join us to pray and reclaim this wonderful Anglican liturgical tradition.

Complilne services are held the second Tuesday of each month.

You can pick up the list of 30 hymns and buy voting points to choose your favorites on Sundays at the St. Nicholas Youth/UK Residency table in Perry Garden.

Have you always wanted to write new words to your favorite hymn tune? Do it now! Choose any hymn in the 1982 Hymnal and create a new verse. Find more information on the verse-writing contest at the UK Residency table.

An Ice Cream Social in the Gallery will conclude the joyful event. Tickets are $20/person -- on sale at coffee hour.

The Hymn Festival is a benefit for the July 2016 UK Residency at Worcester Cathedral in England. Your donation supports sending 23 St. Nicholas youth to sing daily Evensong and Sunday Eucharist services for a week. The invitation to serve as the Choir in Residence at the cathedral is a huge honor and privilege and reflects the high level of St. Philip's youth-oriented music programs. The residency will be a strong sign of sharing our gifts on a global level, and is an amazing growth opportunity. The residency not only will instill in the youth strong leadership skills and a profound sense of accomplishment, but also will provide a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
