Social Media Sunday In 1440, the Gutenberg Press made it possible for words, and The Word, to be shared far and wide. Today, we have a device in our pockets that can share faith to every corner of the planet. On Sunday, October 25, Episcopalians and those of other faiths all over the country are joining together online to make the Good News go viral. Social Media Sunday is a way for all people of faith to share our stories and invite others to come and see. If every single Episcopalian who's on social media posted one single thing about attending church on October 25, imagine how many millions of people they would reach with that witness -- so put those smartphones to use! Bring your device (oh, like you don't?), and quietly, intentionally, and prayerfully use it to share -- check in on Facebook, tweet a highlight from the sermon, post a photo of something fun or exciting at church on Instagram, tag your friends ... #StPhilipsTucson #SMS15

Day of Discovery October 31
It is time to register for the Day of Discovery on Saturday, October 31. You do not want to miss this first event in our rector search process. It is YOUR primary opportunity to provide input into the search process! We will gather to discover a desired future for St. Philip's. The Day of Discovery will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until about 3 p.m. A lunch will be provided. Concurrently, children will participate in a plethora of exciting activities during the All Saints Celebration in the Children's Center. Nursery care will also be provided. Please register so we have materials -- not to mention a lunch -- for you. Sign up here, or by calling the church office at 299-6421. Do You Have the Heart of a Good Samaritan?
In the parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus is asking whether you have a neighboring heart. If you believe the Lord is calling you to serve, consider a ministry that St. Philip's has committed to carry out with five other faith communities in Tucson. The Faith Community Health Network (FCHN) is being coordinated by Interfaith Community Services (ICS). FCHN is working with Banner Hospital to support people with heart failure after they are discharged from the hospital. The patients participating will be people with little post-discharge support. Following FCHN training, volunteers will accept a 2-4 hour per week assignment for six weeks or less. Though grounded in holistic heath, the position is totally non-medical, and will primarily involve transportation for patients to a mandatory follow-up appointment, pharmacy, and grocery shopping. Bob Stanton and Chuck Jones will support the volunteers throughout. In order to participate, you must complete a Congregational Volunteer Training presented by ICS. The training will take place at St. Philip's on October 27 and 29 from 1 to 5 p.m. If you choose to be volunteer after the training, there will be final meeting on November 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Training topics include: Spirituality and Health; Understanding Boundaries; Intro to Common Health Conditions; and Compassionate Care. The Final Meeting will cover Program Policies, Procedures, and Graduation. If the Spirit moves your heart to be a neighbor, please contact one of our St. Philip's liaisons (Chuck Jones 797-1450 or Bob Stanton 578-6254) to register for the training. Bring Items to Help Celebrate Dia de los Muertos
El Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is celebrated in Latin American countries, particularly Mexico. It is a time to remember and honor the deceased. During this celebration it is a tradition to set up an ofrenda, a shrine or altar constructed to present offerings to the spirits, who, it is believed, visit their earthly homes during this time. Since Day of the Dead is considered to be a celebration of eternal life rather than a sad event, ofrendas and Dia de los Muertos art usually reflect whimsical portrayals of the dead in activities they engaged in when alive. St. Philip's invites you to remember your departed loved ones by contributing to an ofrenda, which will be set up in the Columbarium Garden until November 3. Photographs, meaningful objects and memorabilia, and (pre-approved) candles are all suitable offerings. Bring your offerings to Stella during office hours, or they may be left in her mailbox (with a note indicating "For Ofrenda" if not obvious) or on the shelves by the receptionist's desk on Sunday. A special All Souls Memorial Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, November 2, and will end at the ofrenda. The service is followed by a festive reception hosted by the Parish Life Ministry. Donations Being Accepted for Renouf/Nelson Library Book SaleThe ever-popular Renouf/Nelson Library's Used Book Sale is right around the corner (November 7 & 8). The Library Committee gratefully accepts donations of used books to sell at the Sale, up until Nov. 5. All profits go towards the purchase of materials for the Library. Please bring your book donations directly to the Library. Thank you!

Stepping Out for the UK
On Saturday, October 10, 2015, a walkathon was held to raise funds for the St. Nicholas Choir's one-week residency at Worcester Cathedral, UK, in July 2016. The event was not merely a fund-raiser -- the youth are training physically for the challenging schedule they will face in the UK singing the Evensong service daily, even as they also work to train their musical ability.
