Ministry E-Letters

Join Our Mailing List!

For 6 months of the liturgical year we retrace the story of Jesus--from anticipating his arrival to celebrating his birth and ministry to making sense of his death, resurrection, and ascension. During the season after Pentecost, we ponder the question: If Jesus is the Christ, then who are we? We invite you to seek answers through the many spiritual, educational, musical, and ministry opportunities at St. Philip's.

If you know of someone who might like to receive these e-updates, feel free to use the "forward to a friend" link to share the newsletter with them! That doesn't add them to any lists but gives them the opportunity to choose to subscribe.

We hope this e-letter is a useful tool in connecting and staying connected with our St. Philip's community!

Day of Discovery

Note This Important Date: October 31

A special mailing has gone out this week with information about the Day of Discovery, the first event in our rector search process. Please note the date of Saturday, October 31, when we will gather to discover a desired future for St. Philip's.

The Day of Discovery will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until about 3 p.m. Fun children's activities (and nursery care) will be provided, as well as lunch for all.

This is a large time commitment on a Saturday -- however, this is an extremely important first step in our search for a new rector. It is vital for as many St. Philippians as possible to be involved, so please make a note of the date and register soon. All ages are welcome and encouraged to attend.

The objectives for the day are 1) to discover our parish community's strengths and 2) to express how these strengths align with the core values of our parish community. In this way, we will discover how God has gifted us to minister in the wider community. During this process we will also discover our dreams for the future of St. Philip's In The Hills.

The Day of Discovery is the primary opportunity for members and friends of St. Philip's to provide input into the search process.

Don't wait -- sign up now! Click here.

Coming Soon

Sunday, September 13
The Rev. Canon Frank Clark At 10:15 a.m. this coming Sunday, there will be a very important forum in the Murphey Gallery. Our Interim Rector, the Rev. Canon Frank Clark, and Vestry leaders will update us on our parish transitions as we continue the journey toward welcoming a new rector in the future.

At 9:15 a.m., those who tend to wiggle while worshipping, and those who worship with them, are invited to a "Comfy Space" service in the Children's Chapel. The Cherub and St. Cecilia Choirs will offer music, Dr. Sandralyn Pierce will preach, and the Promised Land Parish Puppet Theatre will present the Gospel. Read more about "Comfy Space" services here.

At the 9 and 11:15 a.m. services, we will welcome back our adult choirs, who will have just spent the weekend in intensive rehearsals in preparation.

LoBros At 2 p.m. in the Church, Friends of Music presents The LoBros, built around two musically talented brothers, Salvador and Christian Lopez. As artists, the brothers compose pieces that defy the usual musical categories, combining music from a variety of styles and genera including classical, latin, jazz and traditions from around the world to create a uniquely original musical experience. Also in the lineup: Brian Hicks (tenor sax), Joaquin Zamudio (bass), Richard Katz (keys), and Adam Ackermann (drums). Suggested admission $20.

palette Calling All St. Philip's Artists!
The All St. Philip's Gallery show will be in OCTOBER this year. This is an opportunity for all St. Philippians to showcase their artistic abilities (sorry, wall-hung work only). If you wish to participate, please pick up an information package in the Church Office before October 1, or email Sue Cross. The show will hang on October 3, and the opening reception will be Sunday, October 11. Read about last year's all-parish art show here.

St. Philip's "Spiritual Gifts" Open House
All St. Philip's parishioners are invited to attend this year's Open House on Sunday, October 4, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon in the Murphey Gallery. Instead of the usual Ministry Fair format, this year's event will focus on discerning the Spiritual Gifts that each of us possesses and discovering the Spiritual Gifts that each ministry embodies, so that we all can find opportunities to put our gifts and passions into ministry that is meaningful to us. There will be information provided and representatives of numerous ministries available at the Open House to discuss ways in which their ministries might be a great fit for the special gifts we offer. And there will be Food Trucks offering their delicious fare to fuel our discussions -- please start thinking about what individual gifts you possess and what your passions are in ministry, and join us on October 4!

Please join us to support our choristers by coming to the Walkathon. You can register and walk, and get to know our youth through walking together and enjoying pizza and Eegees' afterwards. Or you can also sponsor our choristers. They will be around the church campus on Sunday looking for sponsors!
