Parish Potluck Hospitality
After the overwhelming success of the Parish Potluck Finger Food hospitality last year, a new feature has been added - periodic opportunities for all St. Philippians to host the table. The next Parish Potluck Hospitality Table will be on December 21, hosted by parishioners whose last names begin with G-L. For families who choose to participate, it is suggested that you bring food in three categories: 1. Sweet Treats; 2. Healthy Snacks (fruit, cheese, whole grain breads, low calorie muffins, gluten or peanut free snacks, etc.); 3. "Kid Friendly Snacks." If possible, food contributions should be at the table shortly after the 7:45 service so people attending that service can enjoy the food and hospitality.

Christmas cookie Bake Sale
Do you have family coming over and don't have time to bake? No problem! Pick up all of your holiday treats from the J2A bake sale table in the fishpond garden on Sunday from 8:30 a.m. till 12:15 p.m. Need more time to think about what you need? No problem! J2A will continue to sell baked goods at the annual Greening of the Church on Monday, December 22. Thank you for your generous support of our upcoming J2A pilgrimage!

holiday grief A Haven for the Holidays
Feeling a little blue, lonely, or depressed? The Mental Illness Ministry cordially invites you to the Bride's Room (west of the Perry Garden) on every Sunday during Advent between 10:15 and 11:00. All are welcome - those who have a brain disorder, families, friends, and anyone who could use some good coffee, conversation, and companionship.  For more information, please contact the Rev. Anne Strong (275-7582), Cheryl Mason (318-1511), or Dr. Sharon Nielsen (579-8229).

Just Coffee Makes Great Gifts
A great Christmas gift--Just Coffee will be on sale on December 21. We have regular and decaf, beans and ground in 10 pound ($10) and 5 pound ($5) bags. This fair-trade coffee supports a cooperative of coffee growers in Mexico.

Choral Evensong
Enjoy a quiet, meditative Choral Evensong service at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Church. Evensong is rooted in one of the daily monastic services that date from the medieval period, and our Evensong is based on the service that has been sung from the Book of Common Prayer from the 17th Century. Led by the Schola Cantorum. This service provides the congregation time to reflect, transition from day into evening, and participate in a spiritual journey led by the choir. The Schola Cantorum and St. Nicholas Choir will sing seasonal music. Followed by a brief organ recital presented by Scott Youngs from All Saints, Phoenix.

Greening of the Church Greening of the Church
Don't miss the annual Greening of the Church on Monday, December 22. We begin at 5:30 in the Galleries with homemade chili (please bring a dessert to share). Come help decorate our beloved St. Philip's for the Christmas season! Find your holiday spirit as you hang greenery and ristras in the church and listen to the wonderful sounds of the Tucson Flute Club. Other opportunities include decorating the wreaths for the great doors and making over 700 luminarias to welcome families on Christmas Eve. See you there!

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Services
St. Philip's offers five services on Christmas eve, at 4, 5:30, 7, 9, and 11 p.m. Each service (except the 4 p.m.) starts with special music 10 minutes before service time. There is also a Christmas Day Eucharist at 11 a.m.

Christmas Eve procession

In keeping with the teachings of the one whose birthday we celebrate at Christmas, St. Philip's extends a welcoming hand to everyone who seeks to worship with us. Therefore, we offer seating for the Christmas Eve and Christmas services on a first-arrived, first-seated basis. It is a good idea to plan to arrive early for the service of your choice. You may expect to wait in lines outside, so dress accordingly. If you wish to minimize your time spent waiting in line, you may consider attending the less crowded services on Christmas Eve--at 5:30 or 11 p.m.--or the Christmas Day service (at 11 a.m.). Please be sure your entire party is assembled before you enter the church, as saving seats is not permitted.

Although the parking lots are patrolled, it is a good idea not to leave valuables in your car.

For the 4 p.m. service on Christmas Eve, you are invited to bring your Baby Jesus from your home crèche (nativity set) to be blessed during the service. This service will feature our Cherub Choir.

A live Nativity scene will follow the 4 p.m. service.

The 5:30, 7, 9, and 11 p.m. services on Christmas Eve and the 11 a.m. service on Christmas day begin with pre-service music and congregational carol singing, at 10 minutes before the listed service time.

The 11 p.m. service on Christmas Eve will include incense.

Please join all St. Philippians in sending a gracious and welcoming message to all who seek to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Week after Christmas

December 28
On Sunday, December 28, the 9 and 11:15 a.m. services will be Lessons and Carols for Christmastide, featuring lots of congregational carol singing. At the 11:15 a.m. service the lessons will be read by "former youth" who are still members of the St. Philip's community. The Adult Formation offering will be the final installment of Kevin Justus's series on sacred places: The Petit Trianon of Louis XV-The Most Perfect and Comforting Place in the World.

Note there is no Church School, and Youth Groups will not meet. The Nursery will be open till 12:30 p.m. Breakfast will not be served on December 28.

December 29
The Church, office, and campus will be closed on Monday, December 29, for a Christmas holiday for staff. Alarms will be activated.

The office will be open Tuesday and Wednesday, December 30 and 31.

Thursday, January 1, is an all-campus holiday.
