For 6 months of the liturgical year we retrace the story of Jesus--from anticipating his arrival to celebrating his birth and ministry to making sense of his death, resurrection, and ascension. During the season after Pentecost, we ponder the question: If Jesus is the Christ, then who are we? We invite you to seek answers through the many spiritual, educational, musical, and ministry opportunities at St. Philip's.
If you know of someone who might like to receive these e-updates, feel free to use the "forward to a friend" link to share the newsletter with them! That doesn't add them to any lists but gives them the opportunity to choose to subscribe.
We hope this e-letter is a useful tool in connecting and staying connected with our St. Philip's community!

Lord God Almighty, you have made all the peoples of the earth for your glory, to serve you in freedom and in peace: Give to the people of our country a zeal for justice and the strength of forbearance, that we may use our liberty in accordance with your gracious will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. (Book of Common Prayer, page 258) Independence Day Ice Cream Social If you like ice cream sundaes, join us in the Murphey Gallery on July 6 at 10:15 a.m. for a celebration of our nation's Independence Day. Catastrophe Series Resumes
A Rabbi, a Scientist, an Atheist, a Psychologist, and a Priest walk into a forum ... St. Philip's forum series "Viewing Catastrophe" which looks at catastrophe from differing perspectives, resumes next Sunday, July 13. One day, TV and newspapers detail a missing Malaysian airliner, another day they report on 9/11, devastating fires in Arizona, tornados in Arkansas. We cannot help but stand in awe of the dreadful magnitude of these purposeful and natural events. * July 13: Atheists' Response to Natural Catastrophe, Dr. Julia Annas * July 20: Psychological Responses, Dr. Sharon Nielsen * July 27: One Priest's Perspective, The Rev. Vicki Hesse Please join moderator Harry Caldwell, PhD, for these insightful and provocative presentations. Held in the East Gallery.
Migrant Survival Packs Border and Immigration Ministry will be collecting items for Migrant Survival Packs on Sundays, July 13, 20, and 27, during Coffee Hour. Bags will be assembled and delivered to Humanitarian Border Solutions. Items needed for the packs are: Bottled water; small juice containers with straws; small packets of nuts, trail mix, dried fruit; chips, fig bars, cookies, granola, snack bars; cheese or peanut butter crackers; small pop-top lid meat or tuna; protein bars; beef jerky; hard candy or Chicklet-type gum; applesauce and fruit cups with spoons. Cash gifts will be used to supplement food contributions. This effort supports Humanitarian Border Solutions, Naco, AZ, an organization devoted to providing humanitarian aid to migrants along the US/Mexico border.
Comfy Space Service Next Sunday, July 13, we offer our second Sunday "Comfy Space" service, which is a participatory experience for parishioners who tend to wiggle while worshipping and for those who worship with them. It will be at 9:15 a.m. in the Children's Chapel. All are welcome.

Casa Maria Ministry Thanks You
A heart-felt thank you to the 20 folks who showed up on June 21 to help make sandwiches for the homeless. Our next sandwich-making will be Saturday, July 19, beginning at 7:30 a.m. We are collecting NEW underwear and socks, plus any serviceable summer clothes for both men and women. Please bring them to the sandwich making on July 19 (and stay to help make 850 lunches to help our neighbors in need). FOM Concert: Ronstadt Generations y Los Tucsonenses
On Sunday, July 27, at 2 p.m. in the Church, Friends of Music presents the Ronstadt Generations y Los Tucsonenses in a concert of Southwestern music. This group continues the legendary musical tradition of the Ronstadt family in Tucson. Led by Michael J. Ronstadt on guitar and voice, they will present an exciting repertoire that preserves the traditional Southwestern and Mexican songs of their heritage while offering innovative original material that echoes the "melting pot" of American folk music. Personnel include Ronstadt father and sons Michael J., Michael G., and Petie; joined by Alex Flores, vocals and tenor saxophone; Sam Eagon, electric and upright bass; and Aaron Emery, percussion. Held in the Church. Suggested admission is $20. Education for Ministry Ever wish you knew more about the Bible, church history, and theology? The Education for Ministry program (a.k.a. "EfM") has helped 80,000 people like you deepen their knowledge and express their faith in their day-to-day lives. St. Philip's EfM program might be a good fit for you too. Stop by our EfM table at Sunday's ice cream social and talk to EfM mentors Mary and Howell Herring to learn more. We're registering now for Tuesday night classes that begin September 9. For more information contact EfM@stphilipstucson.org. Episcopal Night with the Diamondbacks
The Arizona Diamondbacks invite all members of the Episcopal Diocese of Arizona along with their family and friends to an exciting game of baseball as the D-backs take on the Padres, Friday, September 12, at Chase Field in Phoenix. The first pitch is at 6:30 p.m. A group would likely carpool up from Tucson in the late afternoon. Tickets for the game are $10. A portion of every ticket purchased will be donated to the baseball field project at Chapel Rock Camp and Conference Center. If you are interested, call the office at 299-6421 and ask the receptionist to add you to the sign-up sheet.

Last Sunday, June 29, was Social Media Sunday. Episcopalians nationwide posted quotes and photos, using the hashtag #Episcopal to "group" their postings -- this made it possible to watch Social Media Sunday travel from the East Coast to the West Coast in the course of the day. If you missed out on the fun, watch for information about a St. Philip's (or perhaps southern Arizona) Social Media Sunday coming in the fall. | in Cloudcroft, NM |
