For 6 months of the liturgical year we retrace the story of Jesus--from anticipating his arrival to celebrating his birth and ministry to making sense of his death, resurrection, and ascension. During the season after Pentecost, we ponder the question: If Jesus is the Christ, then who are we? We invite you to seek answers through the many spiritual, educational, musical, and ministry opportunities at St. Philip's.
If you know of someone who might like to receive these e-updates, feel free to use the "forward to a friend" link to share the newsletter with them! That doesn't add them to any lists but gives them the opportunity to choose to subscribe.
We hope this e-letter is a useful tool in connecting and staying connected with our St. Philip's community!

Special Collection for Women and Children from Central America
Border and Immigration Ministry has been asked for its assistance with the current humanitarian crisis of women and children from Honduras and other Central American countries being transported to Tucson by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and dropped off at the Greyhound bus station. For years volunteers from Casa Mariposa/ Restoration Project have been meeting and assisting people at the bus station, but they are overwhelmed by the huge influx. We are asking our parishioners to help. Contributions will be collected on Sundays, June 22 and 29, and may be left on the chest by the door to the church. Items most desperately needed are: instant Ramen soup; protein bars; trail mix; bottled water; gatorade; flavored Pedialyte, formula, and powdered milk (in single servings if possible); sweaters and hooded sweatshirts; socks and underwear for children in small sizes; children's blankets; diapers (size 3 and 4); shoestrings; travel size toothbrushes and toothpaste; baby wipes; and toys (clean stuffed animals, coloring books, and crayons). Cash contributions are also welcome; checks should be made out to St. Philip's with "Restoration Project" in the memo line. They may be put in the offering basket or mailed to the church. Thanks for anything you can do to help! Read more from the Diocese of Arizona. Read more from the Christian Science Monitor. LGBTQ-A Movie Night The LGBTQ and Allies Ministry invites all St. Philip's members and their non-Episcopal friends to a special showing of Just Gender at the Loft Cinema at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 16. No RSVP necessary. All are also invited to gather for dinner at 5:30 p.m. at Guilin Chinese Restaurant, directly across the street from the Loft. No RSVP necessary for that either. The documentary film will be followed by a panel discussion of experts. For further information, click here. For general questions, contact Bob Kamilli or call 349-9336. Help Us Make Lunches for Our Neighbors Casa Maria sandwich-making ministry needs help of all kinds next Saturday, June 21 ... veggie slicers, meat unpackers, sauce makers, food process operators, lunch makers ... all hands are welcome. Can we get 30 people to join us? Saturday morning, June 21, at 7:30 a.m. in the East Gallery. Friends of Music Concert: Jason Carder Jazz Trio Friends of Music again presents their popular summer concert series of four concerts, kicking off with the Jason Carder Jazz Trio on Sunday, June 22, at 2 p.m. in the Church. Composed of three charismatic musicians -- Jason Carder, Jeff Haskell, and Brice Winston -- who have international reputations for their versatility, this trio offers a traditional but inventive approach to the American Songbook and Gospel Standards. Jeff Haskell on keyboard is the harmonic engine behind the group. Brice Winston on saxophone and Jason Carder on trumpet both have their own unique styles of jazz, blues, and pop music. Each of these musicians has a distinguished history of recording and performing throughout the world. The trio format gives the three musicians unencumbered freedom to explore different textural devices and rhythmic avenues. This is a must-see group which, due to the touring demands of each, does not have the opportunity to perform in Tucson on a regular basis. Listen to them here. June 29 is Social Media Sunday Episcopalians all over the country will be joining together online on Sunday, June 29, to make the Good News go viral. Social Media Sunday is a way for all people of faith to share our stories and invite others to come and see. Think about this: even if a minority of those who already use social media post about the Episcopal Church on June 29, almost 10,000,000 of our friends and family will learn something about us and our church. Even though Jesus didn't live-tweet events, each of the Beatitudes is 140 characters or fewer, making them perfect for Twitter. Paul didn't have a smartphone, but he used the social media of his time--Epistles. There are nearly 2 million Episcopalians spread around the globe. What if we took one day to connect? What new friendships would form? Who would hear us? So, bring your device to church (like you don't already?) on Sunday, June 29, and check in on Facebook or Foursquare, tweet a highlight from the sermon, take a photo of something fun or exciting at church to share on Instagram, tag your friends on Facebook ... #StPhilipsTucson #Episcopal #SMSunday #ChSocM

Violence in Phoenix
Bishop Smith asks that everyone pray for the repose of the soul of Fr. Kenneth Walker, who was tragically killed on Wednesday night. Also, please pray for the recovery of Fr. Joseph Terra, and their friends, family, and congregation who were affected by this senseless act of violence. Read more here.
May the soul of the Rev. Kenneth Walker, and the souls of all the departed, rest in peace. Prayers for his family, his parish, the Mother of Mercy Mission and his religious order, the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter. We pray for all who are in danger, sorrow, or any kind of trouble, and for all individuals and families in our community who are at risk for violence.
A Father's Day Prayer
Let us give thanks for fathers-- who balance the demands of work, marriage, and children with an honest awareness of both joy and sacrifice; who have worked to be a good father despite lacking a role model for it; who were not able to be there for their young children but now offer their grown children their love and support; who remain in their children's lives despite divorce; who chose to assume the responsibilities of fatherhood by becoming stepfathers; who have lost a child to death, and continue to hold the child in their heart; who have no children, but have "fathered" others as mentors and guides; and finally, we give thanks for those fathers who live on in our memory and whose love continues to nurture us. Amen.--adapted from a prayer by the Rev. Kirk Loadman-Copeland \
Prayer for Pilgrims and Leaders
St. Philip's has pilgrims in two parts of the globe: our J2A youth, who will be returning next week, and our pilgrims in the Holy Land, who arrived in Tel Aviv yesterday. You are invited to pray for them during their pilgrimages. Gracious God, we pray for our J2A youth pilgrims and their leaders as they travel to England and France and for our brothers and sisters on their pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Protect them as they travel, and return them safely to our church home. Jesus, our companion and guide, open their hearts and minds, their eyes and ears, so they will know you to be in the midst of them as they pray, sing, reflect, and share. Most Holy Spirit, inspire these pilgrims with deeper insight into the wonders and mysteries of faith, and empower them with new courage to live as Christ's disciples. Finally, hold their families in your loving arms as they await their loved ones' safe return. Amen. | Our youth pilgrims at Canterbury Cathedral |

Pastoral Letter
Our Bishop has sent a Pastoral Letter concerning the ministry of the Diaconate in Arizona. This letter was composed by members of the Deacon's Council and contains their reflections on their ministry as they envision this ministry for the 21st Century Church. It marks the 20th anniversary of a revitalized Diaconate in Arizona. Read the Bishop's letter here.
Read the reflections of the Venerable Veronica Ritson, Archdeacon, here.
They Were Thinking of Us
The office received the following card from the Diocese, stating that they had prayed for us at their June 2 staff meeting, coincidentally one day after the visit of Bishop Smith to St. Philip's.

DVD: Immigrants for Sale: How Private Prisons Exploit Aspiring AmericansThe documentary "Immigrants for Sale: How Private Prisons Exploit Aspiring Americans" exposes the relationship between harsh anti-immigrant policies and the private prison system that has emerged within the last two decades. The documentary highlights the various human rights abuses that have taken place within these facilities, including inmate deaths, lack of adequate health care, and the moving of immigrants from one detention center to another without notifying their families. Among those benefiting from the broken immigration system is the country's leading private prison corporation, Corrections Corporation of America (CCA), which runs a large number of the private immigration detention centers in the U.S. This DVD was shown this spring at a St. Philip's Sunday Forum sponsored by the Border and Immigration Ministry. It is now available for check out from the Renouf/Nelson Library.
