embroidered handkerchief Fuentes Rojas y Bordado por la Paz en San Felipe
Fuentes Rojas y Bordado por la Paz de San Felipe is going public! Join us for a "taller" (workshop) on Friday, April 25, at the Joel D. Valdez Main Library, 101 N. Stone Ave., from 10 a.m. until noon, to continue our action with Fuentes Rojas / Bordado por la Paz. Violence related to The US-Mexican Drug War has caused the deaths of more than 80,000 people in Mexico. Many were innocent bystanders of random or targeted violence.  Some were friends or relatives of people in drug cartels. All were children of God, worthy to be mourned and remembered. Fuentes Rojas (Red Fountains) originated in Mexico City in 2011 to raise visibility for the victims of the US-Mexico  Drug War that has resulted in systemic violence in Mexico. To make their voice public they formed Bordado por la Paz (Embroidering for Peace) to create a memorial for every victim of Drug War violence. The memorials display information about the victims death in words hand-embroidered with red thread on a man's white handkerchief. We'll gather to stitch known details of each  victim's death based on police records. Instruction will be available; a supply list of inexpensive and easily available materials will be provided in advance. Fellowship and lively conversation are guaranteed. You are invited into a movement of remembrance and solidarity with our neighbors who struggle each day to survive the US-Mexico Drug War in their neighborhoods, villages, towns and cities. For more information, to RSVP and to receive your supply list, or if you need to carpool to the Library, contact Suzanne, BorderImmigrationMin@stphilipstucson.org.

Family Gathering at St. Philip's
A supper gathering will be held at St. Philip's on Friday, May 2, at 5:30 p.m. in the Children's Chapel. Dinner and childcare will be provided. In addition to getting to know each other better, we will spend some time envisioning the future of Children and Family Ministries at St. Philip's. For more information and to RSVP, contact Tamzin Sugiyama.

St. Philip's Day May 4
saint philip Mark your calendars for our annual St. Philip's Day Celebration happening May 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Plaza. There will be LOTS of food, water fun for kids, and plenty of fellowship among fellow St. Philippians. Look for more details in the coming weeks. Contact Mary Paul, lamp1212@cox.net, with any questions.

The celebration of St. Philip's Day at the 9 and 11:15 a.m. services will include A. Vivaldi's beloved Gloria. It will be sung by St. Philip's Singers, Canterbury Choir and Apprentices, St. Nicholas Choir and guest choir, Tucson Girls Chorus, and soloists with Chamber Orchestra. One of the most well-known composers of the Baroque period, Vivaldi has created this wonderfully joyous work for the orphanage for girls in his time, dividing the wonderful texts into several different movements that will be performed throughout the service within our liturgy. We are excited to welcome Tucson Girls Chorus to join us to celebrate this day!

As always on First Sundays, the "food for hunger" food drive takes place all morning in the Fishpond Garden. Food offerings are used to replenish our Food Pantry to help our neighbors in need. Also, please bring any new/used paperback books, on any subject. They will be taken to Reading Between the Bars of Tucson who will send them to prisoners in Arizona. "Just Coffee" is offered for sale on the first Sunday of each month ($10/lb, beans or ground). This fair-trade coffee supports a cooperative of coffee growers in Mexico.

The May show in the Murphey Gallery is entitled "Luminous Watercolors" -- an exhibit of original watercolors by local Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild artists Shannon Russell, Euayne Glinski, and Loisanne Keller. It will kick off with a reception from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 4. Come meet the artists!

Join Friends of Music for our final concert of the season with the renowned Tucson Girls Chorus led by Marcela Molina. Recognized for their wonderful artistic programming and development of young musicians, Tucson Girls Chorus will share music by various composers, including works by contemporary Los Angeles-based composer Frank La Rocca. Admission by donation ($15 suggested).
