Sunday!
Palm Sunday procession Palm Sunday Procession
In a joyous celebration of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem, St. Philip's parishioners will gather at the central fountain (between Union and Vivace) at St. Philip's Plaza (across the street) at 8:30 a.m. on Palm Sunday, March 24 (this Sunday). After the Liturgy of the Palms, we will recreate the excitement of that first Palm Sunday procession as we cross River Road to the Church.

Church School Prayer Project
strips of paper The 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Church School class invites you to participate in our prayer project. Give it to one of our Church Schoolers at the table in the Fishpond Garden or place it in the offering plate. Our class will use them for a church-wide surprise Easter morning!

Palm Sunday Musical Offering
The Canterbury Choir and Canterbury Apprentices invite you to begin Holy Week with a special musical offering at 2 p.m. on Palm Sunday. Sacred Lenten choral music and readings will be juxtaposed in a "lessons and carols" format.

Good Friday Offering
Since 1922, Episcopalians have supported the ministries of the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East through the Good Friday Offering. Through the work of the Episcopal dioceses in the Middle East, Christians maintain a peacemaking and stabilizing presence in the region, serving their neighbors regardless of faith background. The Church covers Jerusalem, Iran, Egypt, Cyprus, and the Persian Gulf. As a tiny minority in the region, Christians embody peace and reconciliation. In spite of the ever present threat of violence, Christians work tirelessly to cross political divides and provide health care to people in need. In underserved cities and towns, Christian hospitals and clinics are beacons of hope for those who have no other access to medical care. Amidst great hardship, Christians focus on increasing cooperation and goodwill, even to the point of risking their lives, as they insist on weapons-free campuses where all people are treated as children of God. Through the Good Friday Offering, we express solidarity with Christians in the Middle East. Offering baskets will be available on Good Friday, or you may bring a check to the office (Steve's box) -- make the check payable to St. Philip's with "Jerusalem" in the memo line. Click here for or more information.

Eggs Casa Maria Seeks Hard-Boiled Eggs

The Casa Maria sandwich-making ministry needs a minimum of 85 dozen hard-boiled eggs. They do not need to be decorated, but it is nice if they are. The next sandwich making is Saturday, March 30, at 7:45 a.m. Bring your eggs on Saturday morning, and stay to help us feed our neighbors!

Portico Construction Begins

Through generous donations from the Bremond Family and Bob and Ann Volz, a portico will be built along the East Gallery. The original design of the Murphey Gallery building contained a portico along the East Gallery to provide a covered entrance in the same style as the covered breezeway outside the West Gallery. Due to budget constraints during construction, the portico was eliminated from the plans. Thanks to these generous donations, plans have been re-drawn and construction on the portico has begun. When completed, the East Gallery will have a new covered entrance providing shelter from the morning sun and rain and will help save on energy consumption in the gallery.

Practicing Civil Discourse in an Uncivil World
Center for Community Dialogue logo Have you been tongue-tied in the face of hostile rhetoric? Have you struggled with how to begin a difficult conversation? If you answered "yes" to either of these questions then this workshop is for you! On Saturday, April 13, from 9 a.m. till noon, in the Murphey Gallery, Catherine Tornbom of the Center for Community Dialogue will lead us in an exploration of tools and techniques to improve our ability to skillfully engage others. The workshop will be experiential in nature, so come prepared to participate -- civil discourse is not a spectator sport! Catherine Tornbom is the manager of the Center for Community Dialogue, focused on helping Southern Arizonans have conversations on difficult topics in a respectful and skilled way. She has over 30 years' experience in organization development and alternative dispute resolution. St. Philippian Jane Prescott-Smith, of the National Institute for Civil Discourse, gives Ms. Tornbom high praise, "Catherine is a gifted trainer from whom I have learned a great deal. I am looking forward to the April 13 workshop with anticipation." This workshop is sponsored by the Outreach Commission and Border and Immigration Ministry of St. Philips. There is no charge for the workshop but reservations are requested. Call 299-6421 to reserve your space or email.
