The Affordable Care Act requires coverage of all USPSTF level A and B recommendations.  Fluoride varnish is a level B recommendation.

Connecticut provides good access to dental care, yet still over 40% of children in Connecticut do not see a dentist. Not until recently have dentists begun to see children under the age of 2.  Yet physicians see children under the age of 2 ten times or more and therefore have the opportunity to talk about oral heath and provide fluoride varnish.  Physicians play an important role in preventing the long-term effects of oral disease.  Please consider taking our free training so that you can offer fluoride varnish to your patients.

Husky and Commercial insurers are reimbursing primary care physicians for the application of fluoride varnish

From the First Tooth can help your practice be proficient in applying fluoride varnish.

Fluoride varnish can be applied by a physician, APRN, RN, or medical assistant.

We are working with the Connecticut Dental Partnership (the Dental Plan for HUSKY Health) to assist HUSKY members find a dental home.  We will help you get your HUSKY patients connected to a participating dentist.

The training is a free CME/CNE program offered in your office setting as a lunch and learn program.  The training includes hands on training for fluoride varnish application, free start up supplies, free lunch, and assistance with workflow strategies and billing.
