What's the Latest with the Flu?

As you're aware, the AAP is working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to highlight several brief messages during influenza season. Each message is designed to give members a snapshot of what is going on around the country with links back to AAP and CDC resources.

2015 AAP Council and Section Executive Committees Vacancies

AAP Councils and Sections are a great way to get involved at the National level! In 2015 there will be more than 100 vacancies to fill on the council and section executive committees. An executive committee is the leadership body comprised of a chairperson and executive committee members. Here are brief descriptions of councils and sections: http://www.aap.org/sections

Nominations are being accepted through December 15, 2014 via SurveyMonkey

Interested candidates are asked to self-nominate. All nominees must be current members in good standing of the national AAP and the specific council/section for which they are nominated.  Candidate information will be shared with the nominations committees for each Council or Section, who will weigh in on the nominations received and make their decision by mid-January. Elections are conducted in March.

Should you have any questions, please contact Yolanda Mackey Amjad at the National office at 800-433-9016 ext. 4079 or via email at sectionelections@aap.org.

Choosing Wisely® Informational Survey

Since you are actively engaged in efforts to improve the health of Connecticut residents, I'm hoping you will be interested in answering some questions and offering your opinion about Choosing Wisely® by taking a brief survey. The survey , will take less than 5 minutes of your time.

Choosing Wisely®, as you may know, is a national campaign effort, led by the ABIM Foundation in partnership with Consumer Reports, that supports patients and clinicians working together to review treatment and testing options so that patients receive care that is most effective for them, and avoid care that may be unnecessary, and in some instances may cause harm.

Your answers to the survey will help the Connecticut Choosing Wisely Collaborative (CCWC), a newly formed group of which the CT Center for Primary Care is a founding member, focus its efforts to bring groups and individuals in Connecticut who are active in Choosing Wisely® or who are interested in learning more about Choosing Wisely® together to learn, connect and share.

The CCWC will be hosting a CT Choosing Wisely Summit on Saturday, March 14, 2015 (8am-12:30pm) at Quinnipiac University. The survey results will help us create a Summit agenda that is responsive to the interests and needs of our Connecticut colleagues from community, consumer and patient-oriented organizations, health systems and medical practices, employers and policymakers. If you are interested in attending the Summit, you can indicate that on the survey and more information will be sent to you.

Please respond to the survey before December 22nd by clicking here. We look forward to receiving your input.

More information about the Connecticut Choosing Wisely Collaborative (CCWC) and Choosing Wisely® can be found here .
