A GAME-CHANGING
MOMENT FOR HILLSDALE

The Town of Hillsdale is pleased to announce that the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has awarded a $754,975 grant to renovate and create a system of sidewalks in the hamlet. Town Supervisor Art Baer was notified by Kenneth J. Flood, Commissioner, Columbia County Planning and Economic Development that Hillsdale had been selected by state officials. Like the establishment of a sewer district, this is an enormous step that advances Hillsdale's Comprehensive Plan. Learn More.

A GROUNDBREAKING PLAN

Hillsdale's original Comprehensive Plan was groundbreaking when it launched in the early 1990s. It offered a framework for guiding future growth and development in the Town and was developed using input from Town residents and stakeholders gathered from a survey and numerous meetings held over several years. In recent years, committees have been busy working with the community to refresh the Plan. The updated Comprehensive Plan maintains the Town's priority for ensuring protection of farmland and open space while also ensuring the quality and livability of the Town's business and residential neighborhoods.

A VISION FOR THE HAMLET

In 2010, a Design and Development Plan for Hillsdale's Hamlet was completed by the firm Project for Public Spaces. The primary goal was to outline a vision for downtown Hillsdale that would create a more walkable village to support economic development and take advantage of Hillsdale's natural beauty and historic relevance. The PPS plan was adopted into our Comprehensive Plan by the Town Board in 2011. Download the PPS Plan.

Though this is a giant step, there's still much more work to do. If you're interested in making things happen to protect Hillsdale's future, join a town committee, attend a board meeting, vote, or write a check. Or all the above! The Town is always grateful for your support.
