Friends & Family Day- Aug. 9- with Eddie Watkins Jr.
| |
We have such a great Sunday in store for you on August 9 that we would love for you to invite your friends and family to join us that day for a great message, an exciting guest artist and a time of fellowship and amazing food! Eddie Watkins Jr. will be giving a concert at 1:30, so we invite everyone to join together for a potluck at noon after services conclude. Catch up with your friends, get some delicious lunch and stay for a fabulous concert at 1:30!
It's a great way to spend a Sunday!
When legendary bass player, Eddie Watkins, Jr., performs you feel the music, the amazing voice and powerful delivery, which is spellbinding whether delivering a funky Motown beat or a quiet meditative song. His music... other people's music, it's all a heart-lifting, soul-stirring, can't-stay-in-your-seat experience! Eddie has been a highly acclaimed bass player and musician all his life. Born in Detroit, originally Eddie had a career as a session bass player. His hard driving bass licks have supported such R & B classic recording artists as Dan Hartman, The Pointer Sister, Gloria Gaynor, Pattie Austin and Billy Preston. Eddie has played on a number of gold and platinum albums, including movie sound tracks and television theme songs. While he made his name as a bass player and composer/producer, his singing talent is indescribable. Eddie toured for two years with the Jazz Crusaders. When he began attending the Spiritual Life Center in Las Vegas in December of 2007, a new type of music began pouring out of him, waking him up. Eddie's first CD "The Answer" was written, produced and manufactured in the first six months of the unfoldment of spiritual expression in his music. He has since produced several spiritual CDs, which will be available for purchase August 9 at UCOP. Eddie was the Director of Music Ministries with Reverend Doug Foglesong in Las Vegas. He was honored to be the Music Director at the Center for Spiritual Living in Seattle, WA from 2009 - 2012. In 2013, Eddie began touring the United States and Canada performing services, concerts, workshops, directing music at conferences and following the path of his enormous heart! "It's A New Day Concert" is a an expression of love and gratitude which gives a new meaning to "soul music." www.eddiewatkinsjr.com Tickets are $20 and available in the lobby after Sunday services, on our website here or through "Flo," our giving kiosk.

 | Men's Group is Moving Back to 1st Saturdays in August
| |
MEN... we are moving back to the first Saturday of the month!
Men's Group Breakfast
Saturday, August 1st
8 to 10 am in harmony hall
This will be a planning session. Tell us if you want a Men's Group? Tell us how you would like it to look. Would it meet once a month or 6 times a year? Would you rather meet Wednesday evening or Saturday morning? Should we have speakers on subjects of particular interest to our men, such as spirituality, energy, relationships or sex? Or should we put our focus on doing activities, like going to a T-Bones game or working on houses for homeowners who can't manage their minor repairs.
This is a crucial time to decide if the concept of the Men's Group is still viable. Please join us for breakfast and discussion.

All of the texts are short, easy to learn and, in the spirit of devotional chants, repeated many times. Participants are also welcome to bring and share their favorite devotional chants, their own simple prayers that we can put to music and musical instruments to play as accompaniment. | Church Picnic has been RESCHEDULED!
| | We all know that UCOP feels like "family." So we are throwing a good old-fashioned "Family Picnic" to celebrate how much we love this community! There will be delicious food grilling (brats & burgers and such) so everyone can bring a yummy side dish to share. There will be all sorts of fun carnival-type games, including a bouncy house for the kids! And what's a family picnic without a Cake Walk?! And, for a love offering, you can try your aim in the Pie-in-the-Minister's-Face contest! There is just no end to the fun we will all have on Saturday, September 12th! Of course, an event of this size requires a lot of folks to help out. Carla Wakefield is the picnic coordinator and she is requesting volunteer support to help run games and events, as well as folks who would like to contribute to the various expenses of the event. If you would like to sign-up to help in some capacity, please contact Carla by email at carlawakefield@gmail.com. If we all pull together and do a small part, we can create a great big wonderful event for everyone to enjoy! |

Do You Shop on Amazon?
| |
Many of us do our shopping these days from the comfort and convenience of our own homes using the Amazon marketplace. Did you know that if you go to our website first, and then enter the Amazon site through our link, the church will then get a small percentage of that purchase? It's like free money for the church! And it doesn't have to be a spiritual book or something church-related either. We will get a small percentage of anything you purchase on Amazon, if you go through our site first on your way there. How cool is that?! It doesn't cost you anything to help support your spiritual community because you were going to shop anyway, weren't you! Now you can do it and help UCOP at the same time. Just click here and it will take you to the UCOP Amazon access page. You can also find the Amazon access page from a link on our Homepage as well at www.ucop.org.
So happy shopping and thank you for your support! We truly appreciate you.
