"You're More Than Your Story"

Guest speaker, Reverend Eric Page, joins us this Sunday to explore what story we might have that is holding us back.  We will look to the Bible and Unity history for a simple formula on how to live successfully from our authentic selves.
What's your new story?

Vocalist Pancho Javier returns to join Fred Albers
and our amazing UCOP Band!

We look forward to seeing you there!

Rev. Eric E. Page is an ordained Unity minister who delights in sharing stories of lives transformed by Spirit.  Previously he worked in archives and museums.  He serves as Archivist in the Unity Library and Archives where he coordinates preservation and research of Unity's unique historic collection.  He also teaches as an adjunct faculty member at Unity World Headquarters at Unity Village, Missouri.

The last weekend in July is going to be SUPER!!!

Join with your SUPER church family on Friday night, July 24, to share some great food provided by the Y.O.U. Then watch a fun superhero movie on the big screen in the sanctuary (the Christopher Reeve version of "Superman") to get us in the mood for Superhero Sunday, July 26! Coming in full superhero costume is not only allowed... but encouraged! A group photo will naturally be taken. A suggested minimum $10 love offering for the meal provided by the Y.O.U. is gratefully accepted and will help fund their many activities and opportunities for spiritual growth throughout the year.

Then Superhero Sunday, July 26, Reverend Brandon will discuss how we might utilize our own innate power to become superheroes in the way we experience and relate to life in his lesson entitled "With Great Power..."

Following that service, we will hold the first of our Ministerial Talk-back Sessions.  We hope you'll join us for this exciting weekend of events!

Rock-n-Roll Sunday Returns August 2nd

with Fred Albers & the Amazing UCOP Band

vocalists: Molly Hammer, Kelly Potter, Terry Swope & Pancho Javier

and Reverend Brandon Nagel

Everybody bring your friends to UCOP on August 2 and get ready to "rock your gypsy soul" as we sail  'Into the Mystic' with Fred and the band and four of the finest singers in town! Reverend Brandon provides inspirational message woven within the rock-n-roll music for a Sunday morning experience that is uniquely Unity Church of Overland Park at it's spiritually rockin' best!

And we should probably state the obvious...it's going to be loud! So please rock responsibly.
Legendary Bass Player, Eddie Watkins Jr - August 9

When legendary bass player, Eddie Watkins, Jr., performs you feel the music, the amazing voice and powerful delivery, which is spellbinding whether delivering a funky Motown beat or a quiet meditative song. His music... other people's music, it's all a heart-lifting, soul-stirring, can't-stay-in-your-seat experience!

Eddie has been a highly acclaimed bass player and musician all his life. Born in Detroit, originally Eddie had a career as a session bass player. His hard driving bass licks have supported such R & B classic recording artists as Dan Hartman, The Pointer Sister, Gloria Gaynor, Pattie Austin and Billy Preston. Eddie has played on a number of gold and platinum albums, including movie sound tracks and television theme songs.   While he made his name as a bass player and composer/producer, his singing talent is indescribable. Eddie toured for two years with the Jazz Crusaders.

When he began attending the Spiritual Life Center in Las Vegas in December

of 2007, a new type of music began pouring out of him, waking him up. Eddie's first CD "The Answer" was written, produced and manufactured in the first six months of the unfoldment of spiritual expression in his music. He has since produced several spiritual CDs, which will be available for purchase August 9

at UCOP.

Eddie was the Director of Music Ministries with Reverend Doug Foglesong in Las Vegas. He was honored to be the Music Director at the Center for Spiritual Living in Seattle, WA from 2009 - 2012. In 2013, Eddie began touring the United States and Canada performing services, concerts, workshops, directing music at conferences and following the path of his enormous heart! "It's A New Day Concert" is a an expression of love and gratitude which gives a new meaning to "soul music."

Tickets are $20 and available in the lobby after Sunday services, on our website here or through "Flo," our giving kiosk.

Back to School Project - July 5 - 26

Back-to-School Project

(formerly known as Pack-a-Backpack)

July 5 to 26

This year, we'll provide school supplies for Community Linc children and those within our own UCOP families. The format will be a bit different than what we've done in the past, hence the new name.   We have learned that our partner organizations prefer that school supplies be unpacked so that children may pick out the items that are specifically on their school supply lists and pack their own backpacks.

To this end, the tags you claim on each Sunday in July will not be to fill a backpack for a certain child, but an agreement to provide a certain number of this or that school supply in general. Someone may choose to provide 10 reams of notebook paper, another may provide 5 boxes of crayons, another may buy two backpacks suitable for an elementary school boy and girl, etc. All supplies will then be made available, as in a store, for the Community Linc families to pick up what their children need for school.

UCOP families in need may also contact Kae Kessler about packing a backpack for their children before all the supplies are delivered to Community Linc. You may contact Kae Kessler at backtoschool@ucop.org.

Unity Basics

This class has been designed for those who desire a basic understanding of Unity's teachings and principles. Each of the five basic teachings will be reviewed, along with an exploration of 'identity statements' that further expound upon what is meant by the teachings and how they are expressed by Unity as a spiritual movement. Focused attention will be given to prayer and meditation and the positive, affirming ways in which they are taught and utilized by Unity.

This class is a pre-requisite to membership at Unity Church of Overland Park.

Suggested Love Offering: $10

Evolutionary Life Journey through Movement

Awaken to the present moment. Connect to the ancient knowledge of your body. Experience the soma body- the unification of body- mind - spirit.

This class is for all ages and abilities. The movement can be easily adapted to people with physical limitations!

In this workshop you will be gently guided through the primary developmental stages of movement, which we passed through as babies and small children. These stages are the same stages that we see in evolution. As small humans our phases of movement beautifully mimic the evolution of life on earth. By experiencing these movements with awareness, we readily sense our connection to other sentient beings on this planet (something that is becoming somewhat or a rarity in our industrialized world of technology.)

Course fee: $15 per session

Men's Group is Moving Back to 1st Saturdays in August

MEN... we are moving back to the first Saturday of the month!

Men's Group Breakfast

Saturday, August 1st

8 to 10 am in harmony hall

This will be a planning session. Tell us if you want a Men's Group? Tell us how you would like it to look. Would it meet once a month or 6 times a year? Would you rather meet Wednesday evening or Saturday morning? Should we have speakers on subjects of particular interest to our men, such as spirituality, energy, relationships or sex? Or should we put our focus on doing activities, like going to a T-Bones game or working on houses for homeowners who can't manage their minor repairs.

This is a crucial time to decide if the concept of the Men's Group is still viable.  Please join us for breakfast and discussion.

After the meditation, there will be a sacred prayer circle to share and honor one another's prayer intentions. You'll experience such serenity you'll want it to go on forever.

Do You Shop on Amazon?

Many of us do our shopping these days from the comfort and convenience of our own homes using the Amazon marketplace.
Did you know that if you go to our website first, and then enter the Amazon site through our link, the church will then get a small percentage of that purchase?  It's like free money for the church!  And it doesn't have to be a spiritual book or something church-related either. We will get a small percentage of anything you purchase on Amazon, if you go through our site first on your way there. How cool is that?!  It doesn't cost you anything to help support your spiritual community because you were going to shop anyway, weren't you!  Now you can do it and help UCOP at the same time. Just click here and it will take you to the UCOP Amazon access page.  You can also find the Amazon access page from a link on our Homepage as well at www.ucop.org.

So happy shopping and thank you for your support!
We truly appreciate you.
