Community Outreach Partnerships & POTLUCK!

The Board of Directors is pleased to announce that our Community Outreach Partners for 2015 are Community Linc (www.communitylinc.org) and Heart to Heart International (www.hearttoheart.org).

Community Linc's mission is to end homelessness, impact poverty, and remove barriers to self-sufficiency for families in the Kansas City area. Heart to Heart International's mission is to improve global health with initiatives that connect people to resources. They help with disaster relief and are active in Haiti and Liberia.

And we are overjoyed that two incredible servants have stepped forward to co-lead these partnership initiatives. Dan Beckett and Julie Randolph are both deeply passionate about service outside the walls of UCOP.
Dan  will be the point person for all the activities with Community Linc ([email protected]).

And Julie Randolph will organize all the wonderful opportunities with Heart to Heart International for all that are called to this area of service ([email protected]).

Community Outreach Church-Wide Potluck- March 1
Please plan to join us in harmony hall after the 11am service on March 1 to celebrate the fantastic cooks in our community at our church-wide potluck. This will also be a chance for you to sign up for the community outreach opportunities that speak to you. Monica Enloe from Heart to Heart International and Teresa McClain from Community Linc will be available, along with Dan Beckett and Julie Randolph, our outreach team leaders, to answer questions and discuss the upcoming opportunities for you. It will be a fun way to explore how we can come together as a community and take our Light out into the world!
Looking forward to seeing you there!

Able-Bodied Volunteers Requested
Do you have a strong back and wish to serve your spiritual community in an upcoming project?  We will be changing out all the light bulbs and re-focusing stage lighting instruments in the sanctuary very soon.  To do so requires moving a very large 25 foot, 3-story, A-frame ladder that weighs 150lbs around the sanctuary so that we can get up there and fix these lights.
Volunteers will not be asked to climb this ladder, just move it around.  We really need at least 4 able-bodied volunteers to maneuver this thing.
If you are willing to help, please contact Jane Sauve as soon as possible at 649-1750 x-3012 or [email protected]

Women in Unity 3rd Saturday Gathering

Women in Unity Saturday Gathering

10 am to 12pm, February 21 in harmony hall 2

We will be exploring the words and intentions that we received at the White Stone ceremony in January in a creative and hands-on way! Do not worry if you do not have a white stone, you will be guided in discerning your intention. Please bring a snack to share with the group! For questions or to RSVP email Suzanna at  [email protected] or Heather at [email protected] .

Easter Basket Outreach Gets Under Way!
'Tis the season to bless our community with lovingly filled Easter baskets. The Easter Basket Outreach Project gets under way Sunday, February 22 with a time to gather together and prepare the 150-170 adoption tags we will have. If you would like to help prep the adoption tags, please plan to gather in harmony hall 3 on Sunday, February 22 at noon.

Then everyone will have the opportunity to adopt the tags and fill their baskets full of love and goodies beginning Sunday, March 1 through 15, with all baskets due back to the church by March 22. This year we will be supporting Little Sisters of the Poor, Lake Mary Center and members of our own UCOP family.

Board Informational Meetings - March 1

Board of Directors Informational Meetings

10:30 am & 12:30 pm, Sunday, March 1

Have you ever considered serving on the Unity Board of Directors?  We are looking for people who have been a member of UCOP for at least one year, regularly attend worship services and other activities, support the ministry with their time, finances, love and prayers, are conversant with Unity teachings and strive to "walk the talk" of our mission and goals. Board members are a tremendous blessing to the church. People who have

served often say how they were blessed by being in service in this way.

As one person described it, serving on the board was "the most

spiritually uplifting experience I have ever had."

If you would like to be nominated as a candidate for a position on the board, or simply want to learn more about it, you are invited to attend one of our informational meetings, to be held Sunday, March 1 at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. This is a casual question and answer meeting and will cover board duties, time commitments and a general sense of the overall experience as a board member. Applications will be available March 1 - April 5 and the deadline for submitting applications is 12:00 noon on April 7. The election will be on June 28 at our annual business meeting. Please feel free to talk with any member of the Nominating Committee - Shirley Hill (Chair), Ellis Megee, Amy Elliot or Evelyn Criswell (Board Liaison) -if you have further questions.

Hawaiian Ho'oponopono

The ancient Hawaiian practice of Pono is "being at one with everything"--being right with yourself, with Spirit, with others and with all of creation. Daily living often pulls us out of alignment with ourselves and our world. During this three week series you will explore the process of Ho'oponopono, a way of returning to the harmony that is natural to your spirit greatness. In addition, you will learn how to use your HA (Sacred Breath) to deepen your Pono (unity with all) and live the essence of Aloha.

2015 Midwest Unity Men's Retreat

On Friday evening we will also have a sacred ceremonial drumming circle as well as live music, both led by our very own Mark Gossman.

What does it mean to be a man? As your life unfolds and you continue to grow through the various roles of a man (partner, father, son, worker, teacher/learner, leader/follower), what do you use as your guide for understanding and becoming your true self? As a connected group of men, what agreements can we put into place to allow us to be vulnerable so that we can help one another in our continual journey of rediscovering our true self?

Reverend Albert Wingate has been exploring this topic and would like to share his thoughts and experiences. Albert is an avid storyteller. He uses the power of experienced story-telling to facilitate an active learning process that promotes connection and relationship building. Large group and small group discussions and activities will be used to facilitate this process. The goal is to deepen our understanding of developing as a man of wisdom and spirit through the various stages of our lives.

Workshop with Guest Artist, Charles Holt

With every opportunity to step further into our greater good and life journey is the likelihood that something from our past will resurface. In most cases these events and memories have been hanging around in our minds for long periods of time... years even. It is inevitable, however, that these dangling participles make their way into our field of vision. They should not, by any stretch of the imagination, be the genesis of our undoing. In fact, these seemingly unwarranted mental and emotional intruders rise to the occasion in our mind to create an impulse for us to extract more of our true essence and character. Heavily laced within these somewhat vintage frames are principles that point us in the direction of becoming honest with our heart of reconciliation and our forgiving selves. Letting go of pain and hurt is noteworthy. And learning the practice to put these principles into action may be elusive and quite slippery. But the footing gained in our journey on the road to our personal best is made clearer in the process. The first step is being willing to walk the path... to say "YES" to that inner voice that is calling us forward to a greater way of being and becoming, a healthier way of living and a broader way of sharing our gifts in the world. patient journey with reconciliation. At his father's passing, Holt uncovers a treasure
of self-worth and wisdom that ultimately lead to a path of self-emancipation
 and freedom.

In the Presence Meditation
This meditation provides the opportunity to go into a deep, deep experience of the Presence. Meditation does wonderful things to our human bodies, giving them time to revitalize and heal themselves. At the same time, our souls experience their real, true selves, going to the place inside that is timeless and eternal. After the meditation, there will be a sacred prayer circle to share and honor one another's prayer intentions. You'll experience such serenity you'll want it to go on forever.

Fillmores on Healing & Wholeness-Part 2

This is the second part of the course titled "Myrtle and Charles Fillmore on Healing and Wholeness." The whole course is based on the spiritual laws and universal principles that support the expression of health and wholeness in our minds, bodies and affairs. We will be working with Myrtle and Charles Fillmore's interpretation of how Jesus used and demonstrated those spiritual laws and principles in his own life. The purpose of the course is to support participants in developing a practical understanding of Myrtle and Charles' theology as heart-centered metaphysicians. It is our expectation participants will be inspired to become heart-centered metaphysicians themselves. We also expect them to expand their "tool kit" for using healing principles in their daily lives and in supporting other people in their own healing process.

Rosie Dominguez knew she'd found home the first day she walked into UCOP in 2009. The minister's words that day deeply resonated with her. She was thrilled to finally find a spiritual home with like-minded individuals. She challenged herself to learn the Unity teachings and understand the Principles at a profound level. She has attended numerous classes, workshops and retreats at UCOP and Unity Institute. She has served as a Fall Faith circle facilitator, Core Values Team member and is currently on the Small Group Support Team. She has a passion for sharing what she learns and therefore enjoys facilitating classes at UCOP. Rosie's journey has led her to understand prayer in a completely different manner. She grew up in a traditional church, which she practiced up until the week before walking into UCOP. Rosie is currently serving her third year as a prayer chaplain. Affirmative prayer has transformed her life and played a significant role in her awakening. Rosie has been married for 24 years with two grown children. She attributes being a better wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend and all around person to affirmative prayer and the understanding, through prayer, of the Christ in her.
Environmental Fast Fact of the Week

Brought to you by your Green Team!

Scientists have concluded that when the amount of carbon in the atmosphere exceeds 350 parts per million, the effects of global warming result in rampant melting of arctic ice, drought spreading across the planet and rampant increases in diseases like dengue fever and malaria occurring in places where they've never been seen before. The bad news is that we've exceeded 400 parts per million.

Each week between now and April 5th, the Green Team will offer 10 "Environmental Fast Facts" highlighting something you can do to become a better steward of the earth as well as the average reduction in pounds of CO2 emissions each household will realize.

This Week:

What you can do:  Weatherize doors and windows

Average reduction of CO2 emissions: 621 pounds a year.

Why:  The barrier created around a house with windows, doors, insulated walls, ceilings and floors must be leak-free for a truly energy efficient house.  About one third of a typical home's heat loss occurs around and through the doors and windows.

How:   Make sure doors seal tightly and have door sweeps at the bottom to prevent air leaks. Find out how to weather strip doors from the US Department of Energy or by calling the Kansas City Home Performance Network  program at 816-835-7593 or email [email protected].  (If you're a renter, contact your landlord before weatherizing doors or windows.)

Do You Shop on Amazon?

Many of us do our shopping these days from the comfort and convenience of our own homes using the Amazon marketplace.
Did you know that if you go to our website first, and then enter the Amazon site through our link, the church will then get a small percentage of that purchase?  It's like free money for the church!  And it doesn't have to be a spiritual book or something church-related either. We will get a small percentage of anything you purchase on Amazon, if you go through our site first on your way there. How cool is that?!  It doesn't cost you anything to help support your spiritual community because you were going to shop anyway, weren't you!  Now you can do it and help UCOP at the same time. Just click here and it will take you to the UCOP Amazon access page.  You can also find the Amazon access page from a link on our Homepage as well at www.ucop.org.
