 | Community Outreach Partners in 2015
| |
Starting in 2015, this church is going to do something we've never done before. And it all began with the strong desire we've heard from you that you wanted to get involved in Community Outreach in a deeper way.
Each year, we will select two non-profit organizations that we can partner with throughout the year. These will be organizations where we can serve, help them reach their goals, and send 15% of our monthly tithe. To be selected, these non-profit organizations must have channels for us to create impact ... ways that we, at UCOP, can serve.
So we would like your input. If you know of a non-profit organization that is impacting our city and would allow our church to serve in a meaningful way, please complete the form here. We will be collecting your recommendations through January 11th. And then we will discern our two partners for the coming year. We will invite representatives from the two (2) selected organizations to come and speak to us from the platform to tell us about their organization and ways we can get involved. So we appreciate your input as we get this new initiative started.

 | Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University
| |
Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University Wednesdays, January 7 - March 11, 7 to 9 pm with Robert Jones & Marty Tidings We all need a plan for our money. Financial Peace University (FPU) is that plan! Through video teaching, class discussions and interactive small group activities, FPU presents biblical, practical steps to get from where you are to where you've dreamed you could be. This plan will show you how to get rid of debt, manage your money, spend and save wisely and much more! FPU classes meet for about two hours each week for nine weeks. More than 1.5 million families have taken FPU. The average family completing the course pays off $5,300 in debt and saves $2,700 in just 90 days. That's a $8,000 change in position! Whether you're struggling to make ends meet or you're a millionaire, Financial Peace University has something for you. This isn't some stuffy economics class! You'll laugh as you learn money skills from Dave and participate in entertaining class activities. Robert Jones and Marty Tidings will be available to talk with you about the class and answer any of your questions at a registration table in harmony hall after services every Sunday beginning December 14. You may also learn more about and register for this amazing class HERE. Preview Class: Sunday, January 4 at 12:30 pm Rob Jones, MS, MAEd, AFC, CSA is a financial counselor and educator for the Hutchins & Haake CPA firm. Rob holds two master's degrees - one in family financial planning and the other in adult education. He is an Accredited Financial Counselor and specializes in helping families set financial goals then uses proven techniques to help folks reach those goals through dumping debt and planning for the future. Rob is a long-time member of Unity Church of Overland Park and volunteers to coordinate the Financial Peace University course as a way to share his time and talent with the church and community. We offer FPU at this time of year because folks are focused on their New Year's resolutions of getting their financial life in order and getting organized and Financial Peace University can be a great benefit in reaching those goals. If you have questions about the course, you can reach Rob at 913 620-7148. Marty Tidings has a masters in financial planning and has been through Dave Ramsey's Financial Counselor training. She is retired from the State of Oklahoma as a Food Safety Inspector and from the Army Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel. Currently she works at Innovest Financial Partners as an assistant financial planner. Taking Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University course totally changed Marty's life. Not only does she no longer have any consumer debt but, as a result of following this plan, she was able to move back to the Kansas City area after 30 years in Oklahoma to assist in the care of her mother in 2011. Getting out of debt allows us to have options that are not available when we are so weighted down with debt that we can't breathe. Taking Ramsey's class was the best thing Marty ever did for herself and she wants to pass that information on.

 | Men's Group Breakfast - Saturday, January 10
| |
Saturday, January 10, 2015
Men's Group Breakfast
8:00 to 10:00 am in harmony hall
The January Men's Group meeting has been moved to the second Saturday of the month because of the holiday. This month someone from Harvesters will give us the rundown on hunger in Kansas City.
Across the Kansas City area, which Harvesters serves, a study shows that more than 374,000 are food insecure. Lots of kids are food insecure (in MO -1.4 million kids, in KS 722,000 kids). At the January meeting we'll learn what "food insecurity" is and why it exists even when there are food stamps available. Also, what avenues of assistance people can take in the KC area - Federal programs / charitable programs, etc. We will discuss what a lack of healthy food does to families and why, if we are truly One, we should care if a 3 year old child is hungry.

 | Women & Men's Groups Join in Community Service
| |
Come volunteer with the Women and Men's Groups as we join together on Saturday, January 17th at 10 am to give a "hand-up" to those in our city seeking assistance at Harvesters. Harvesters will show us an 8 minute video in the Hunger Awareness Center at 10 am and then lead us on a 15 minute tour of their facilities at 10:15, both of which will provide us with useful information about their service and mission. We will then make our way to their warehouse at 10:30 to sort and pack food into boxes. Their warehouse is not heated, so be sure to wear layers to stay comfortable.
In order for Harvesters to appropriately plan for us and their needs, we need to let them know in advance how many people will be in our group. Please RSVP to Vanessa Green at 913-596-8493 by Sunday, January 11th if you plan on volunteering. If you are interested in carpooling or caravanning over we will meet in our church parking lot at 9 that morning and depart at 9:15 promptly.

 | Transformational Workshop Opportunity!
| |
What would life be like if you lived every minute of every day with the deep peace of knowing that nothing and no one is against you? Too often in life we believe that outer circumstances are holding us back, driving us crazy, or causing us pain. When we wait for others to change or for outer circumstances to adjust, we give away our sense of wholeness and our very freedom to craft the life our heart desires. The Art & Practice of Living with Nothing and No One Against You Workshop and its transformational 21-day practice called The Q Process weaves together the latest research emerging from neurobiology, developmental psychology and quantum science with the wisdom of the world's mystical traditions to offer a powerful path to personal evolution. * Learn how to take the most trying circumstances and put them to use in manifesting your magnificence. * Unlock the wisdom in your heart and learn to see the gift of Grace that is everywhere present. * Open to the full meaning of the spiritual principle: There is only one power in the Universe, God the Good, Omnipotent * Discover your conscious and unconscious exceptions to this principle that create incongruence and resistance * Learn how to differentiate your "True Self" from the myths, messages and beliefs that underlie patterns and conditioning that lead to suffering * Practice using the Whole-Heart Aware-apy Approach to cultivate lasting behavioral changes consistent with living life with nothing and no one against you Created by Gary Simmons, author of the Unity book The I of the Storm, Jane Simmons, author of I of the Storm for Teens and Rima Bonario, co-author of Who Have You Come Here to Be, this series presents many mind-stretching concepts, heart-opening practices and real life tools to help you consciously reshape the way you experience life. Learn how to make the most of a "trying circumstance" and put it to use in understanding who you have come here to be! Are you ready to step more fully into expressing who you have come here to be? Then join Revs. Deborah Frownfelter, Diana Kennedy and Jane Simmons for this one-of-kind transformational workshop on Saturday, January 17th from 9am-4pm, followed up by 3 debriefing phone sessions on Tuesday evenings at 7pm - Jan. 20 & 27 and Feb. 2. The cost for this powerful 21 day program includes a workbook and is $75 for early registration or $99 at the door. Take your spiritual life to a whole new level with The Q Process! "Since hosting the Art & Practice Workshop it seems that our community is in the middle of a quantum leap in spiritual maturity as we use these dynamic tools to prove principle. The synergy is powerful and palpable; the evidence is in the transformative stories I am hearing and seeing. Having our Staff and Board present and involved and now working with this God-sent set of life-changing tools has been a great gift to our church. It is as though the good that has been damned up for many is flowing freely and abundantly as we work the processes taught in the workshop. The potential is here for collective transformation that is real and lasting. I am heartened, excited and grateful!" -Rev. Steve Bolen, Sr. Minister; Unity Church of the Hills, Austin, TX Fee Based Class: $75 for early registration or $99 at the door. REGISTER HERE!
