"When I See You...

In this month, we declare "I AM...Visionary."
But is our vision sometimes clouded?  Reverend Bob Barth invites you to join him this Sunday as we explore
the way we see ourselves vs. the way others see us.
And most importantly, how does God see us?
Who are we in Divine Mind?

Vocalist Joel Morrison joins Fred Albers
and the UCOP Band.
We look forward to seeing you there!

2014... the Year of "I AM"
The words "I AM" are a holy expression for the name of God - the highest aspect of yourself. This year, we explore the highest possibility for our lives by choosing a quality each month to focus on and express. In every moment know that you are the living expression of the Christ!

This year we invite you to consider empowering your life
with the following affirmations:

"I AM"...
Boundless... Real... Courageous... Aware... Curious... Adventurous... Lighthearted...Outrageous... Limitless... Connected... and Sacred

In the month of September, let us affirm together:

Fall Faith 2014 Begins October 5th

The spiritual journey that we are on is about to take a quantum leap forward. Our Fall Faith series this year is a reexamination of Eric Butterworth's pivotal book, "Spiritual Economics."  Copies of the book are available in our bookstore right now.  Our intention for this year is to take action and to go deeper. This series paves the way for us to do just that as we will move into a deeper sense of spiritual well-being, while taking the steps to live in the consciousness of God.

The time is now and the place is here at Unity Church of Overland Park. Join with others in small groups and then with hundreds of others in this spiritual community to make a commitment to a higher way of living. Experience an exponential increase of peace of mind, joy of heart and abundance of life.

Also, mark your calendar for our Fall Faith event being held on Friday night, November 14th, here at the church. This experience will be like none other as we conclude the Fall Faith series, celebrate the 40th anniversary of Unity Church of Overland Park and welcome the next 40 years.

Fall Faith Circles are forming right now.  You may sign-up after services in harmony hall, or you may allow Spirit to assign you to the right and perfect circle by filling in and submitting THIS FORM.  We will let you know which circle you've been assigned to.

"Wherever two or three are gathered together in an interaction of minds, a very real energy force is projected into the world. If it happens to be a prayer group or a positive discussion group, then there is a healing or prosperity influence." Spiritual Economics (p. 116)

Teri Wilder spent almost 11 years on the air in Kansas City radio (Oldies 95, 101 The Fox and Star 102). She then left   radio and began to pursue her first love - music - full-time, coming out with her first self-titled CD in 2002. In 2005, she began writing specifically for the New Thought churches where she'd been singing for a decade, including UCOP. From her current home in San Diego, she continues to write music for churches, retreats, seminars and conferences. Her passion for sound healing brought her to the gong, which has transformed her life with a new depth of vibrational experiences. Now a Gong Master, in 2013 she recorded Mystical Gong Meditations, a CD of 4 gong-only meditations. Never one to sit still, Teri travels the country singing at churches, giving keynote concerts, presenting play-shops and gong meditations and has also created a line of inspirational jewelry called "Wilder Things" (a.k.a., "Spiritual Bling"), available at her live performances. Her dedication to raising the vibration of the planet is a theme running through all she chooses to pursue. Her infectiously positive personality and quick wit will hold your attention and open your heart.

Women in Unity Meeting - September 20

As we move into the Fall season, we will want to resonate with the positive qualities of that season - reaping the benefits of the harvest planted in the other seasons. Positive qualities of this season include nurturance, acceptance, groundedness and abundance. When we resonate with these qualities and not our problems, we live our lives with greater joy and happiness. When we are out of sync with this element we may find ourselves expressing and living from a negative state of mind and missing out on the abundance of what is there for us. Resonance Repatterning is a system that will allow us to realign ourselves so we can fully enjoy the positive qualities of this Fall season.

Shirley Collins, LSCSW, a member of Unity Church for over 15 years, will be offering Seasonal Repatterning for the Unity Women's Group on Saturday, September 20.   It will be in her home with a potluck luncheon immediately following the group repatterning. The address is 10608 Bluejacket Street, Overland Park, KS 66214. The house is located just south of 103rd St. & Nieman Rd.   If you have questions or need clarification on directions, call Shirley at (913) 341-2704. womeninunitygroup@gmail.com

In the Presence Meditation

This meditation provides the opportunity to go into a deep, deep experience of the Presence. Meditation does wonderful things to our human bodies, giving them time to revitalize and heal themselves. At the same time, our souls experience their real, true selves, going to the place inside that is timeless and eternal. After the meditation, there will be a sacred prayer circle to share and honor one another's prayer intentions. You'll experience such serenity you'll want it to go on forever.

Healing Service September 30
Join us for a healing service and worship experience that offers you restoration of mind, body, and soul, through loving music, a short message and a lengthy time of prayer and meditation. Chaplains are available for prayer before, during and after the service. This healing service is designed to help you deepen your sense of well-being and expand your awareness of your innate wholeness as you move forward on your spiritual journey.

In August of 2013, Anne and her husband David, teamed up with stellar keyboardist, Alex Cordero, to lead the Wednesday Evening Love Lift (the W.E.L.L.) at Unity Temple, in the Charles Fillmore Chapel. Early this year, they added a monthly healing service to their mid-week services and now consider it to be the heart of their ministry. Anne leads the service with an insightful message and meditation while David and Alex create a transformational music experience.  Anne, a third year ministerial student at Unity Institute and Seminary, was a television producer for over 15 years before answering her call to ministry. David, a veteran actor, is best known for his portrayal of the lovable Sgt. Parker Williams on the groundbreaking TV series "In the Heat of the Night." In fact, their twenty-one year romance began while working on this show together!

Anne & David and Alex are delighted to bring their Spirit-Led passion for leading this healing service to Unity Church of Overland Park.
Unity Basics

This class has been designed for those who desire a basic understanding of Unity's teachings and principles. Each of the five basic teachings will be reviewed, along with a listing of 'identity statements' that further expound upon what is meant by the teachings and how they are expressed by Unity as a spiritual movement. Focused attention will be given to prayer and meditation and the positive, affirming ways in which they are taught and utilized by Unity.

Reverend Brandon Nagel is an associate minister here at UCOP and the director of educational programming. Sandra Duncan is currently studying at Unity Institute as an LUT candidate (Licensed Unity Teacher) and hopes to enter the path to ministry upon completion of that certification.
Fillmore Healing Class Available

Join us as we explore the spiritual principles that support the expression of health and wholeness in our minds, bodies and affairs. We will be working with Myrtle and Charles Fillmore's interpretation of how Jesus used and demonstrated those principles in his own life. Such principles will be presented to support participants in developing a practical understanding of Myrtle and Charles' theology as heart-centered metaphysicians. The goal will be that through the development of such practical understanding, participants will be inspired to also become heart-centered metaphysicians in their own lives. We also expect them to develop a "tool kit" for using healing principles in their daily lives and in supporting other people in their own healing process.

Men AND Women's Breakfast-October 4

Saturday, October 4 from 8 to 10 am in harmony hall

The Men's Group AND the Women In Unity will meet jointly this month for breakfast and they invite ALL men and women to join them to hear a fascinating presentation by Rev. Dr. Jesse Tanner.

"Are the New Testament scriptures reliable?" Rev. Dr. Tanner will explore the question "Can we trust that the New Testament texts reflect the original manuscripts? To what extent did oral transmission in the early church distort Jesus' life and teachings?" Through the tools of textual criticism and cultural anthropology, Rev. Dr. Jesse Tanner explores the best evidence and challenges certain trends of understanding that undermine confidence in the New Testament and the historical Jesus.

Rev. Dr. Tanner is an ordained Unity minister and professor of scriptural and religious studies at Unity Institute and Seminary. He holds a Master of Theological Studies from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL where he studied New Testament Greek, textual criticism and early Christian history. Jesse also holds a Ph.D. in history and philosophy of religion from the University of the West in Rosemead, CA where he focused on interfaith encounter as a form of interpretation and the power it has to bring transformation. His areas of personal and scholarly interest include religious pluralism and identity, interreligious dialogue, theological hermeneutics and Christian origins and history. He has published in several scholarly journals as well as more popular forums on religion and spirituality. Jesse is involved in a variety of ministerial and social justice activities and participates in interfaith community gatherings regularly. You might wish to visit Rev. Dr. Tanner on http://theunitychristian.blogspot.com.

Join the Crop Mob for Unity Garden!
It's Crop Mob time!! The Unity Garden is planning a crop mob, blitz workday on Saturday, October 11, from 9am to noon, to get the garden ready for winter. We will be planting garlic and applying compost and mulch to our beds so they are in good shape for next spring. A Crop Mob is a term used when there is a task that needs a lot of people to help (sort of like the old fashioned barn raising.) If you would like to participate, contact Kelly Sturgeon at ksturgeon@ucop.org or call 913-649-1750 x-3010 for more information and directions to the garden. We will also enjoy a potluck picnic afterwards. Bring a favorite dish or dessert to share. Come enjoy good company and help our garden stay sustainable!
SoulCollage

SoulCollage® is a spiritual process that supports the journey through life by using images to express both the wisdom and the shadow-side of one's soul. This is a time to gather together and make SoulCollage® cards. There will be a meditation, followed by card-making time and then time to "read" our cards as a group. All supplies will be provided for you, but you may bring special magazines if you would like. Also bring any cards you have already made. If you would like to purchase additional card blanks, they are available at the UCOP bookstore. You don't need any artistic ability; the cards are made with simple cutting and pasting skills. Everything you need is already within you, waiting to be discovered through this simple "soul-tending" process. If this is your first SoulCollage® experience, contact Barbara ahead of time and plan to arrive at 5:15pm.

Rev. Barbara is a certified SoulCollage® Facilitator and has trained with Seena Frost, the originator of the process. She is an ordained Unity minister and a master teacher who brings creativity, heart and soul to life. Do You Shop on Amazon?

Many of us do our shopping these days from the comfort and convenience of our own homes using the Amazon marketplace. Did you know that if you go to our website first, and then enter the Amazon site through our link, the church will then get a small percentage of that purchase?  It's like free money for the church!  And it doesn't have to be a spiritual book or something church-related either. We will get a small percentage of anything you purchase on Amazon, if you go through our site first on your way there. How cool is that?!  It doesn't cost you anything to help support your spiritual community because you were going to shop anyway, weren't you!  Now you can do it and help UCOP at the same time. Just click here and it will take you to the UCOP Amazon access page.  You can also find the Amazon access page from a link on our Homepage as well at www.ucop.org.   So happy shopping and thank you for your support!  We truly appreciate you.
