 | 2014... the Year of "I AM"
| |
The words "I AM" are a holy expression for the name of God - the highest aspect of yourself. This year, we explore the highest possibility for our lives by choosing a quality each month to focus on and express. In every moment know that you are the living expression of the Christ! This year we invite you to consider empowering your life
with the following affirmations:
"I AM"...
Boundless... Real... Courageous... Aware... Curious... Adventurous... Lighthearted... Visionary... Limitless... Connected... and Sacred
In the month of August, let us affirm together:

 | Guest Speaker, Rev. Dr. Tom Shepherd, August 31
| |
Ready for a rootin'-tootin' Old Testament sermon from Unity Institute's always provocative theologian and historian, the Rev. Dr. Tom Shepherd? If you attended Sunday school as a kid, you probably learned the Jonah story is about a reluctant missionary who tried to escape God's call and got swallowed by a whale. But the headline for this clearly mythological ancient tale ought to be much more than "Runaway preacher thwarted by voracious marine mammal..." The Book of Jonah is about learning to forgive the unforgivable. At a time when the world is so polarized, it is a message humanity desperately needs to take seriously. Join Rev. Dr. Tom Shepherd for his lesson entitled "Who Will Weep for Nineveh? A New Look at the Story of Jonah." Rev. Dr. Shepherd will also be available in the lobby after services to sign his book, "Glimpses of Truth."
The Rev. Dr. Shepherd is best known to Unity audiences as the author of the popular column "That's a Good Question," which has run for 15 consecutive years in Unity Magazine®. A retired U.S. Army chaplain and decorated Vietnam veteran, Dr. Shepherd has been in ministry since 1976. His best-selling book, Friends in High Places, traces the family tree of New Thought Christianity. His recent books, Jesus 2.1 and Good Questions, are published by Unity Books. He has also taught middle school for 10 years, run for public office in Georgia (and lost), driven a taxi in Idaho, flown helicopters in Southeast Asia and published two science fiction novels. Today "Dr. Tom" teaches historical and theological studies
to candidates for the Unity ministry at Unity Institute® and Seminary. Like his
Unity Magazine column, his program "Let's Talk About It" is edgy, controversial
and full of lively, collegial exchanges.

 | Fillmore Healing Class Available
| |

Join us as we explore the spiritual principles that support the expression of health and wholeness in our minds, bodies and affairs. We will be working with Myrtle and Charles Fillmore's interpretation of how Jesus used and demonstrated those principles in his own life. Such principles will be presented to support participants in developing a practical understanding of Myrtle and Charles' theology as heart-centered metaphysicians. The goal will be that through the development of such practical understanding, participants will be inspired to also become heart-centered metaphysicians in their own lives. We also expect them to develop a "tool kit" for using healing principles in their daily lives and in supporting other people in their own healing process.

 | Men's Group Breakfast Saturday, September 6
| |
Men's Group Breakfast - Saturday, September 6
from 8 to 10 am in harmony hall, with Cathy Combs.
Cathy says, "My basic premise has always been that we are Spirit Incarnate. I didn't always have that wording but I've always had that knowing and writing my books has made that knowing crystal clear and I'm so very grateful. I have always been connected with a quiet calm and confidence that I consider the hallmarks of my life. I have always known that we are innately good and that knowing is an immeasurable blessing. These knowings are the hallmarks of all I do as I continue to share my messages with a world I love so very much.

 | In the Presence Meditation
| |
This meditation provides the opportunity to go into a deep, deep experience of the Presence. Meditation does wonderful things to our human bodies, giving them time to revitalize and heal themselves. At the same time, our souls experience their real, true selves, going to the place inside that is timeless and eternal. After the meditation, there will be a sacred prayer circle to share and honor one another's prayer intentions. You'll experience such serenity you'll want it to go on forever.

 | Women in Unity Meeting - September 20
| |
As we move into the Fall season, we will want to resonate with the positive qualities of that season - reaping the benefits of the harvest planted in the other seasons. Positive qualities of this season include nurturance, acceptance, groundedness and abundance. When we resonate with these qualities and not our problems, we live our lives with greater joy and happiness. When we are out of sync with this element we may find ourselves expressing and living from a negative state of mind and missing out on the abundance of what is there for us. Resonance Repatterning is a system that will allow us to realign ourselves so we can fully enjoy the positive qualities of this Fall season.
Shirley Collins, LSCSW, a member of Unity Church for over 15 years, will be offering Seasonal Repatterning for the Unity Women's Group on Saturday, September 20. It will be in her home with a potluck luncheon immediately following the group repatterning. The address is 10608 Bluejacket Street, Overland Park, KS 66214. The house is located just south of 103rd St. & Nieman Rd. If you have questions or need clarification on directions, call Shirley at (913) 341-2704. womeninunitygroup@gmail.com.
