 | 2014... the Year of "I AM"
| |
The words "I AM" are a holy expression for the name of God - the highest aspect of yourself. This year, we explore the highest possibility for our lives by choosing a quality each month to focus on and express. In every moment know that you are the living expression of the Christ! This year we invite you to consider empowering your life
with the following affirmations:
"I AM"...
Boundless... Real... Courageous... Aware... Curious... Lighthearted... Outrageous... Visionary... Limitless... Connected... and Sacred
In the month of June, let us affirm together:

 | We celebrate the life of Dr. Maya Angelou
| |

Unity Church of Overland Park, together with all the world, holds Dr. Maya Angelou in the Light and Love of God as she continues onto the next pathway in her Great Journey. Known as a Global Renaissance Woman, Maya Angelou was a celebrated poet, memoirist, novelist, educator, dramatist, producer, actress, historian, filmmaker and civil rights activist.
Her life and accomplishments, not the least of which were her tremendous capacity for love and forgiveness, inspire the heart and expand the mind and the consciousness of all humanity. We are profoundly grateful for the Light that she was and will always be on this planet and we honor her.
When Maya was in her 20's she discovered the Unity church. We invite you to watch this brief excerpt from an interview with Oprah Winfrey in which she speaks of a revelation that changed her life forever. Watch the video here. As it happens, Unity Church of Overland Park will be offering a class on the very book Dr. Angelou refers to in this interview. "Lessons in Truth" will be held Thursdays, June 12 - July 17 from 7 to 9 pm. To read more information on the class or to register please visit http://www.ucop.org/lessons-truth .

Karl Anthony's life liberating concerts and social action contributions are legendary. From 20,000 seat arenas in Moscow to a child's hospital room, his work unites humanity. Karl has received several Gandhi/King Season for Non-Violence Peace Hero Awards for his humanitarian efforts. And when he is not touring the world, he works at Rady Children's Hospital as part of their Healing Arts Department providing a musical outlet and connection for children and their families. Karl's strong distinctive voice, which is a cross between Sting, Robert Plant and Cat Stevens, drives his community outreach and creativity. His music communicates a meaningful urgency which is a perfect home for his always poignant lyrics and his unforgettable live performances. His career crosses countless boundaries and truly is an international language of service, action and pure joy.
Karl Anthony will also present a brilliant laser light show entitled "MANTRA" with vibrant acoustic Kirtan music in harmony hall 2 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm after his Sunday lesson. | Practical Spirituality
| |

Practical Spirituality is a meditation class designed to bring more clarity, peace, empathy and compassion into your life through connecting with the Divine Energy of universal human needs; e.g. belonging, abundance, love, growth. After the meditation, there will be some time for debriefing, sharing and questions. Through these meditations, participants will learn to be more aware of the aliveness within and understand new ways to get needs met that value everyone's needs. We will be using the four-part Nonviolent Communication Process developed by Dr. Marshall Rosenberg, founder of NVC and a meditation process developed by Mary McKenzie, co-founder of the NVC Academy online.
Jan Stanley has been engaged in her passion and joy: facilitating, teaching and practicing Nonviolent Communication (also known as NVC or Compassionate Communication) since 2001. Contributing to peace and attunement with the Divine Energy through prayer, meditation and mediation (being a peacemaker to parties in conflict, whether inner or outer) is the expression of her mission of "teaching the world to sing" or, in other words, to live with vibrant abandon, deep self-connection and authenticity. Jan has taught NVC and heart connection practices to administrators, teachers and students in schools. She is also a 3rd year graduate of the NVC Mediate Your Life program as a student and a coach. Jan is intent on making space in the world for all voices and perspectives to be heard and understood.

 | Looking for answers?
| |

Do you feel like what you want in your life is so close, but just outside your reach?
Or, are you unsure of what step to take next to have what you want and make the difference you desire? Sometimes in our attempts at being so perfectly spiritual we create a "spiritual bypass" and can easily overlook the clear answers that are just under our nose. To evolve spiritually is to master the human experience and all that comes with it. The answers we seek are quickly revealed as we give reverence and credence to the human experience. Tamie will share her own personal stories as well as solid practices of how to master human living and life itself, so that we can more fully express our spiritual essence, more easily manifest what we desire and make a greater impact on the planet.
Tamie Rising is an empowerment coach, business accelerator and speaker who offers inspiring and engaging seminars and trainings around the country. Tamie's out-of-the-box teaching and coaching liberates clients to achieve new heights of success, meaning and aliveness. Tamie is a true optimist who is deeply committed to rehumanizing and revolutionizing our inner mindset and outer culture. Her mission is to empower individuals, leaders and teams to be more creative, happy, innovative and authentic contributors within our families, businesses, communities and on the planet.

 | Lessons in Truth
| |

We will be embarking on an exciting adventure to explore Truth with
Dr. H. Emilie Cady. Dr. Cady was a physician and metaphysician in the New Thought movement. The chapters that form Lessons in Truth are some of the very first metaphysical discussions published by Unity. This book is an important foundation to the understanding of Unity metaphysics. This course will include
both large group and small group discussions of Emilie Cady's book Lessons in Truth. Over the course of this 5 week journey students will spend time exploring Cady's concepts of Truth including how human thinking determines humankind's expression of freedom and goal attainment. They will learn how to use this knowledge in their personal life as well as the purpose of denials and affirmations as an aspect of the role of prayer in the development of our wholeness.
