White Stone Sunday (Part Two)

As Mother Nature kept many folks home last Sunday with that big snow, Reverend Bob Barth will be offering another White Stone Sunday meditation service this weekend. This service will follow regular services on Sunday the 12th at 12:30 p.m. in the peace chapel.  If you weren't able to get your White Stone and write your spiritual intention upon it for 2014 last week, you have another opportunity!

2014... the Year of "I AM"

There is tremendous co-creative power in those two little words... "I AM,"  which you consistently use to define who you are and what you are capable of. These two words are a holy expression for the name of God-the highest aspect of yourself. This year, we explore the highest possibility for our lives by choosing a quality each month to focus on and express. In every moment know that you are the living expression of the Christ! This year we invite you to consider empowering your life with the following affirmations:

"I AM"...
Real... Courageous... Aware... Curious... Adventurous... Lighthearted... Outrageous... Visionary... Limitless... Connected... and Sacred

And to kick things off in January, let us affirm together:

Artist's Statement

Evelyn Misner

is a lover of words, color, textiles, and nature and is a prolific collector of all  manner of small things.  She uses her love of beauty and language and her gifts of creativity and imagination to combine paint, paper, fabric, natural objects and words to create detailed collages to inspire and delight.  She's never happier than when she is arranging and rearranging things and  repurposing things to create something new. Dabbling in sewing, painting, calligraphy, floral design and having her own photography business provided a rich background of experiences for this genre of artistic expression.  You may remember seeing Evelyn's art here at UCOP years ago when she created two large 3-D bulletin boards for UCOP each month to support themes and programs.  She credits that experience as her entry into the world of collage art.

Her philosophy reflects Thoreau's, who said, "To affect the quality of the day . . . that is the art of life."

Artist Statement

Lucinda Baker

is an award winning artist who creates abstract paintings in water-media and  collage.   She has been painting for over 40 years.  Lucinda supports the local art community and belongs to several national art associations.   Her work can be found in galleries, corporate and private collections.  She is a member of the Society of Layerists and Multi-Media, International Society of Experimental Artists and Northland Exposure Artists' Gallery.

A strong foundation in design elements and principles is necessary for creating her compelling abstracts.  In the later stages of a painting, decisions involving design are applied as the individual elements are refined.  The composition is built in many layers as the painting progresses.  The foundation, created in the early stages, creates a depth to the finished work.  The mystery reveals itself to each individual as the unconscious mind pauses and makes a connection.

*   Learn more about the documented health risks of genetically engineered foods in a 42-minute hard-hitting DVD by Jeffrey Smith,  author of "Seeds of Deception."

*   Browse and taste a selection of locally grown and/or purchased foods and information about where to find it.

*   Discuss ways in which we can raise our consciousness regarding the choices we make with our lives and food, thereby improving our health while helping to leave the earth in a better condition than when we arrived.

Discover the Power Within You

This course is a spiritual study of the true teachings of Jesus Christ. It is based on the book "Discover the Power Within You" by Eric Butterworth. This book presents the thesis that we all can discover, accept and release the power of the divinity Jesus believed dwelt within him and also in each individual. This divinity Jesus described as the Kingdom of Heaven within.

Eric Butterworth calls us to believe that the divinity within man was not just Jesus' heritage. That divine heritage, he asserts, is also ours. For that reason, this book is more than just something to read and believe. It becomes a tool to develop an action plan and to live our divinity. Butterworth says that if you and I totally accept the truth we will also be able to see in others the same divinity that is in us and was also in Jesus. This course is an inner call from your true being. It is a call for you to express and manifest what you really are.
