NEWS FROM  THE HIVE

HOLIDAY HOURS AT WOOL & HONEY
Hello, friends!

This is the last little push, isn't it....the last few days to finish those gifts to make it under the wire. We're shipping every single day this week and we ship Priority Mail, so even if you live in the Great Lakes region, there's a good chance we can still get a gift to you. Call us, too, if you're interested in expedited options--we'll see what we can do!

The  online shop is always open, but our bricks-and-mortar store is open lots during the coming weeks, too. We're stuffed to the gills with yarn, needles, kits, patterns and gifts...if you've finished up your holiday knitting, it's time to shop for something for yourself for the New Year.
(TONS of new Malabrigo and YOTH Yarns Juicy Palette, among other things!)

You'll be hearing from us once more before Christmas--look for the last of the 12 Knits on the morning of Christmas Eve!

There's nothing that says Christmas quite like the classic red mitten. While we might not be wearing mittens in Northern Michigan for the holidays this year (why, yes, they ARE calling for mid-50s on Wednesday afternoon!), we thought we'd design a convertible pair that would double up on those days when you need even more finger mobility. Wear them with the lids down when you want full coverage, flip the tops up when you need to change the radio or turn up the heat or fish that perfect Petoskey stone out of the water. Our mittens are knit with an absolutely stunning yarn, hand-dyed in custom batches by the lovely Katherine Ashley of Ewetopia Yarns. It's the most magical blend of Merino, nylon and cashmere, which makes it all the more Christmas-y.

Each kit will make one pair of mittens to fit an average woman's hand, includes an easy-to-read pattern and one skein of Ewetopia Yarns Pashm in Pomegranate, a gorgeous, tonal red.

"Fahoo fohres, dahoo dores, welcome Christmas, Christmas Day!"

Sized to fit the tiniest elf in the house, we couldn't resist pairing red and white to create a Seussian-inspired toque. Pour yourself a glass of eggnog, turn on The Grinch Who Stole Christmas and get into the holiday spirit with this quick-to-knit hat.

Growing up, my sister Liz looked just like Cindy Lou Who....this hat's for her!

Each kit will make one hat to fit a 6-month old, includes an easy-to-read pattern and one skein each of Big Bad Wool Weepaca in Raw White and Stop.

We know that Life--is about taking time to enjoy the everyday, as well as all the other obligations we have, day in, day out. It's not hard at all to get caught up in the shuffling and the planning and the just plain busyness of it all... and to gloss over the daily joys, forgetting about why it is that we do what we do and just like that, the moment is gone. While we we were planning for the next season.

One of the greatest gifts we have as knitters is to spend a little time every day with our tools, our minds, our hands, some quiet and make. Making a tiny sweater for the first grandchild that's growing inside your daughter's belly. Making a pair of mittens to keep your best friend's hands warm out on the cross-country ski trail. Making a sweater for the guy who finally gave you that ring.

It doesn't have to be big. Or complicated. Or expensive. (We've found that a simple garter stitch dish cloth and a handmade soap tied with a ribbon makes a wonderful wedding/housewarming/thank-you-for-being-my-postmaster gift, time after time after

time.)

What a gift should be, however, is heart felt. Which is why we're starting now with our celebrated 12 Knits of Christmas (in its eighth year, if you can believe it!) We've written 12 patterns for the hands, home and heart that, if you start now, will give you plenty of time to create meaningful gifts while rejoicing in the everyday.

Without question, our 12 Knits of Christmas is the best it's ever been.

The focus is on gifts that you'll be ecstatic to give, whether it's because they're knit with yarn you've never seen before (they are), they all require less than two weeks to complete (they do) or because they're fresh takes on classic knitted gifts (they will be).

There's more. (Of course.)  We'll be giving away six outrageous prizes to six very lucky knitters.

1.) For each ambitious customer who purchases ALL 12 kits, you'll be entered into a drawing to win a $250 gift certificate to Wool & Honey, either in-house or online.

2.) For each kit ordered, you'll be entered into a separate drawing for
three (3) $25 gift certificates, two (2) $50 gift certificates and one (1) $100 gift certificate to Wool & Honey, either in-house or online.  (Ordering 3 of the same kit?  That counts as 3 entries!)
