THANKSGIVING WEEKEND 2014:
NOVEMBER 28th & 29th

Happy almost Thanksgiving, friends!  This weekend is our big event--an entire weekend devoted to knitting, relaxing and celebrating unique gifts this holiday season.

Friday, November 28th--10 am to 5 pm
Saturday, November 29th--9 am to 5 pm

Join us where we'll be on hand to help you start (or finish!) some of your Christmas gifts.  We'll be snug and cozy in the shop, knitting ALL weekend, with coffee and treats to make you feel right at home.  (Hey, if you want to wear your pjs while you're sitting here on our couches, you're our guests--we don't judge!)

Here's something else to think about.  You know how much we love hand knit gifts.  Love them.  It's why we created the 12 Knits of Christmas, way back in 2008.  Christmas is the (un)official culminating event for knitters worldwide--it's what we live for.  But.  We realize for a variety of circumstances (time and desire, ahem,) you may not be knitting for everyone on your list.

That's also where we come in.

This season, more than any other, we are introducing TONS of gorgeous gifts that go hand-in-hand with knitting.  Here's the rundown of what you can expect to see this weekend.

Fair warning: it's kind of an amazing list.

-Formulary 55 guest soaps in 6 amazing holiday scents, including Balsam + Fir and Rosehip + Cardamom.

-Bee & Ewe Healing Honey Lotion, a brand new item from Lexi, a beekeeper and fiber artist.

-Letterpress Michigan cards from Emilie in Grand Rapids.
Great for homesick college students.

-Soy candles from Farmhouse Candle Company in 8 scents.  Some of the most amazing smells we've ever sniffed, including Treemoss + Cedar and Vanilla + Tobacco (think your grandfather's pipe).

-Our signature lip balm in 6 new holiday flavors we've never had before.  (Um, hi, Marshmallow Hot Cocoa!)

-Watercolor landscape cards from local artist Margaret Weeks.  Blank on the inside for writing your own personal note.

-Enameled copper jewelry from Frankfort artist Elara Coleman.  We've had Elara's lovelies in here before for a trunk show and we are thrilled to bring some key pieces back in for the holiday season.

and of course TONS OF NEW YARN, including:

-10 new colors of Road to China Light, an exquisite blend of alpaca, silk, camel and cashmere in a sport weight.  Still, after more than 4 years of carrying it in the shop, this is, hands down, my favorite yarn.

-14 new colors of Cascade Ultra Pima Fine.  A perfect companion to all the soaps we're bringing in, as one skein will knit two sweet little face cloths.

-14 colors of Dream in Color Smooshy with Cashmere.  (I mean, again.  Cashmere.)

-40 (!) colors of Quince & Co. Finch, a fingering weight wool perfect for colorwork, shawls, hats, fingerless mitts and lightweight sweaters.

and TWO new pattern lines, including:

-Churchmouse Yarns

-Knitbot

And if you needed even more motivation, we'll be giving out gifts to each of our shoppers all weekend long--every customer will receive a signature Wool & Honey tote bag just for coming in to shop (a $7.95 value!)
The best part?  Every single time you visit the store, bring your tote bag in and you'll receive $1.00 off your total purchase.

We hope you'll join us this weekend--we think it's a holiday event you won't want to miss.

We had our first real brush with winter this past week (enough snow to require shoveling driveways and closing schools!), and of course, it had us all reaching for our knitwear. One of my favorite gifts to knit--and the handknit I reach for again and again--is the ubiquitous cowl. The older I get, the more sensitive I am to the cold temperatures, especially that patch of skin between where my winter coat ends and my chin begins. A cowl is the perfect solution to block out drafts and is a gift that meets all the knitter's sensibilities. Without requiring tons of yardage, nor taking too much time to knit, nor needing to fit anyone in particular, the cowl is on point--practical yet fashionable, trendy yet classic. This version features a gorgeous, soft blend of Merino wool and alpaca, with just enough silk to make it feel incredibly luxurious, too. It's knit back and forth with simple decreasing, increasing and slipped stitches to give a slight ruching effect and you employ a provisional cast-on and the Kitchener stitch to create a seamless piece that feels heavenly next to your skin.

Each kit includes an easy-to-read pattern and one skein of Why Knot Fibers alpaca/merino/silk dk in Hyacinth, dyed by the lovely Kat Eldred--right here in Northern Michigan.

There's no denying it now--the holiday season is upon us.  And we know, because we've had the same conversations with so many of you year after year (after year), that this is the year you're going to do it right.  No more knitting-induced carpal tunnel that sidelines you for the entire month of January.  No more Christmas Eve all-nighters (because we probably don't need to remind you that you're not 19 anymore.)  No more last-minute, caution-to-the-wind, unrealistic projects that leave you sweating, swearing and wondering whether they'll even like it.   (You can't knit a pair of socks for everyone in your office, your daughter's piano teacher and your husband's boss's brother if you wait until Thanksgiving weekend to start.  We know.  We've tried.)

The holidays, regardless of your specific traditions, are meant to celebrate the sacredness of humankind.  Gift knitting isn't about obligation or about one-upping your sister-in-law.  It really can just be stripped down to this: your two hands making something--big or small--for someone who matters in your life.  A 'thank-you' to the teacher who spends every day with your son--and the person who finally taught him to enjoy reading.  A little something for the neighbor who always waters your plants and picks up your mail while you're on vacation.  Your mother's favorite nurse--the only one who can get her to take her meds.

Without question, our 12 Knits of Christmas is the best it's ever been.  The focus is on gifts that you'll be ecstatic to give, whether it's because they're knit with yarn you've never seen before (they are), they all require less than two weeks to complete (they do) or because they're fresh takes on classic knitted gifts (they will be).

There's more.  (Of course.)  We'll be giving away two outrageous prizes to two very lucky knitters.

1.) For each ambitious customer who purchases ALL 12 kits, you'll be entered into a drawing to win a 12-month subscription to our exclusive Sleeping Bear Yarn Club (a $563.35 value!)

2.) For each kit ordered, you'll be entered into a separate drawing for a $100 gift certificate to Wool & Honey, either in-house or online.  (Ordering 3 of the same kit?  That counts as 3 entries!)
