Hiya, friends,
Week Seven--it's getting serious up in here! We've got our eyes on the prize, so look for more timely emails from here on out...we know you're feeling the time crunch, too. Thanks for your patience as we plowed through a particularly busy October here at the store. Thank you, too, for all your orders--you're what made things so busy! :) This week's project was inspired by both a former design (The Aran Ornament Kit) as well as our friend Mary Ellen's prompting that monograms get their time to shine. Thank you, Mary Ellen--and thank you, Lori C. for helping us with the name!

Just a reminder that there are only 24 hours left to sign up for the November colorway for the Sleeping Bear Yarn Club--the M-22 Color Tour. We're turning in our final numbers to the dyer on Thursday, so if you'd like a skein (or two!) of this gorgeous custom colorway, please don't wait to sign up, either online or by calling us at the store at (231) 228-2800.

It's no secret that I have a special place in my heart for ornaments. Every year since I was born, my mother has given me one for each Christmas, often handmade or to commemorate a special vacation (I've got ornaments she bought in Montana, Mexico and Cape Hatteras!) Now that I have a daughter of my own, I've started carrying on the tradition with Sasha. This year, even though she's still a little young, I wanted to create something I thought might help with learning letters. We love monograms and knit in a simple ecru wool, these would match any holiday decor.
These "ornaments" are a bit bigger than traditional ornaments (ahem, about 7" square!), so while they might not fit on your Christmas tree, we think they're perfect mantel decorations. Spell out the words "JOY" or knit one in each family member's initial. (We used exactly half a skein for each letter, so if you're careful, you could squeeze "NOEL" out of one kit.)
This pattern includes charted instructions for all 26 letters of the alphabet.
Each kit includes an easy-to-read pattern, batting for stuffing, ribbon for hanging and two skeins of Quince & Co. Lark in Egret.

While we hope you're spending every minute of your spare time soaking up these September rays, we also know that a few short months from now is the culminating event for generous knitters everywhere. The holiday season, while it may be just a frosty glimmer on the horizon, is slowly approaching. And we know, because we've had the same conversations with so many of you year after year (after year), that this is the year you're going to do it right.
No more knitting-induced carpal tunnel that sidelines you for the entire month of January. No more Christmas Eve all-nighters (because we probably don't need to remind you that you're not 19 anymore.) No more last-minute, caution-to-the-wind, unrealistic projects that leave you sweating, swearing and wondering whether they'll even like it. (You can't knit a pair of socks for everyone in your office, your daughter's piano teacher and your husband's boss's brother if you wait until Thanksgiving weekend to start. We know. We've tried.)
The holidays, regardless of your specific traditions, are meant to celebrate the sacredness of humankind. Gift knitting isn't about obligation or about one-upping your sister-in-law. It really can just be stripped down to this: your two hands making something--big or small--for someone who matters in your life. A 'thank-you' to the teacher who spends every day with your son--and the person who finally taught him to enjoy reading. A little something for the neighbor who always waters your plants and picks up your mail while you're on vacation. Your mother's favorite nurse--the only one who can get her to take her meds.
Without question, our 12 Knits of Christmas is the best it's ever been. The focus is on gifts that you'll be ecstatic to give, whether it's because they're knit with yarn you've never seen before (they are), they all require less than two weeks to complete (they do) or because they're fresh takes on classic knitted gifts (they will be).
There's more. (Of course.) We'll be giving away two outrageous prizes to two very lucky knitters. 1.) For each ambitious customer who purchases ALL 12 kits, you'll be entered into a drawing to win a 12-month subscription to our exclusive Sleeping Bear Yarn Club (a $563.35 value!)
2.) For each kit ordered, you'll be entered into a separate drawing for a $100 gift certificate to Wool & Honey, either in-house or online. (Ordering 3 of the same kit? That counts as 3 entries!)
