Hiya, friends!
Week Six ....wow. The halfway point. Of course, because you've all started so early, there's no need to panic--am I right? The official count, beginning now, is 12 weeks from Christmas. You really do have plenty of time. And with our help, you've also got plenty of options. This week's project can be given as a gift to a special friend at Christmas, or you could even stash it away for yourself to enjoy in the new year. With two size options, this tea cozy is exactly the antidote to a Midwestern winter. Brew up a pot of Earl Grey, add a new knitting project and an episode Downton Abbey, and you've got a storybook Sunday afternoon.
Read more about the Cranberry Cottage Tea Cozy below....* * * * * We have to apologize for a few errors in Week Four's pattern, the Cider Mill Mitts kit. Thanks to a few eagle-eyed customers, we've found--and fixed--the glitches. Please get in touch with us if you've purchased this kit or pattern over the past few weeks and need an updated PDF--we'll send it your way ASAP. We do our best to proof these patterns several times before they reach your hands--thank you for your patience and understanding when mistakes do happen! * * * * *
We have a special request for our Sleeping Bear Yarn Club members: we're preparing our booth at the 14th Annual Leland Fiber Fest this weekend (October 10th & 11th) and would like to showcase your handiwork. We'd like to borrow--just for the weekend--any and all of your finished projects that you've completed with any of the club colorways. If you'd be willing to share, please drop off your pieces at the store by Wednesday, October 8th. We'll bring them back to the store in pristine condition for you to retrieve any time after Monday, October 13th.
Questions? Please call Melissa or Liz at (231) 228-2800. |

"There is something in the nature of tea that leads us into a world of quiet contemplation of life."
-Lin Yutang
Tea--one of life's simple pleasures. It seems to represent--just by the very nature of completing the ritual (heating the water, swirling the leaves in the cup, waiting until just the right moment to take the first sip)--peace and quiet. Slowing down, if just for a few moments. What better way to elongate those few moments than knitting a sweater for the teapot itself? A tea cozy creates a wooly barrier between the warm pot and the cool air, giving you even more time to sit...and knit! Ours features a foldover ribbed turtleneck (that leaves easy access to the lid) and a clever pocket (that's sewn on later) to hold several teabags.
This pattern includes instructions for two sizes--to fit both a standard (6-8 cup) and large (8-12 cup) pot. The larger version is pictured.
Each kit includes an easy-to-read pattern and one skein of Malabrigo Worsted in Geranio, a gorgeous pinky red.

While we hope you're spending every minute of your spare time soaking up these September rays, we also know that a few short months from now is the culminating event for generous knitters everywhere. The holiday season, while it may be just a frosty glimmer on the horizon, is slowly approaching. And we know, because we've had the same conversations with so many of you year after year (after year), that this is the year you're going to do it right.
No more knitting-induced carpal tunnel that sidelines you for the entire month of January. No more Christmas Eve all-nighters (because we probably don't need to remind you that you're not 19 anymore.) No more last-minute, caution-to-the-wind, unrealistic projects that leave you sweating, swearing and wondering whether they'll even like it. (You can't knit a pair of socks for everyone in your office, your daughter's piano teacher and your husband's boss's brother if you wait until Thanksgiving weekend to start. We know. We've tried.)
The holidays, regardless of your specific traditions, are meant to celebrate the sacredness of humankind. Gift knitting isn't about obligation or about one-upping your sister-in-law. It really can just be stripped down to this: your two hands making something--big or small--for someone who matters in your life. A 'thank-you' to the teacher who spends every day with your son--and the person who finally taught him to enjoy reading. A little something for the neighbor who always waters your plants and picks up your mail while you're on vacation. Your mother's favorite nurse--the only one who can get her to take her meds.
Without question, our 12 Knits of Christmas is the best it's ever been. The focus is on gifts that you'll be ecstatic to give, whether it's because they're knit with yarn you've never seen before (they are), they all require less than two weeks to complete (they do) or because they're fresh takes on classic knitted gifts (they will be).
There's more. (Of course.) We'll be giving away two outrageous prizes to two very lucky knitters. 1.) For each ambitious customer who purchases ALL 12 kits, you'll be entered into a drawing to win a 12-month subscription to our exclusive Sleeping Bear Yarn Club (a $563.35 value!)
2.) For each kit ordered, you'll be entered into a separate drawing for a $100 gift certificate to Wool & Honey, either in-house or online. (Ordering 3 of the same kit? That counts as 3 entries!)
