NEWS FROM  THE HIVE

Wool & Honey banner

Hiya, friends!

Week Five....these knits are stacking up in nice, neat little piles, I assume?  There are so many of you who've been participating in our 12 Knits of Christmas this year--thank you!  This week's knit is meant for the hostess with the mostess.  We know that the little touches we leave for our house guests are sometimes the things that make them feel the most at home.  This set of silky facial cloths--as well as luxurious lather from a sparkly little soap and a tiny tin of creamy cuticle balm--have restorative powers that will bring guests back again and again.  We think this kit would be perfect for brides, new mamas and kindergarten teachers, too!

Calling all knitters!

We have a special request for our Sleeping Bear Yarn Club members: we're preparing our booth at the 14th Annual Leland Fiber Fest on October 10th & 11th and would like to showcase your handiwork.  We'd like to borrow--just for the weekend--any and all of your finished projects that you've completed with any of the club colorways.  If you'd be willing to share, please drop off your pieces at the store by Wednesday, October 8th.  We'll bring them back to the store in pristine condition for you to retrieve any time after Monday, October 13th.

Questions?  Please call Melissa or Liz at (231) 228-2800.

An entire sampler of facial cloths (six separate patterns!) in a glossy mercerized cotton that could almost pass for silk.  We've color-coordinated these kits to go with almost any bathroom style--each of these kits comes with two colors per hue (a light and a dark shade), plus white.  Whether you're redecorating your bathroom or plan to knit one for each of your coworkers, they're a great way to familiarize yourself with a few new stitches.  Lay out the entire collection in your guest bathroom--along with the soap and cuticle balm--to give your holiday guests the real royal treatment.

Each kit will make six cloths.

Each kit includes an easy-to-read pattern, three skeins of fingering weight cotton (in your choice of blues, greens or purples), one shea butter cuticle balm and one of our signature Royal Jelly bee soaps.

While we hope you're spending every minute of your spare time soaking up these September rays, we also know that a few short months from now is the culminating event for generous knitters everywhere.  The holiday season, while it may be just a frosty glimmer on the horizon, is slowly approaching.  And we know, because we've had the same conversations with so many of you year after year (after year), that this is the year you're going to do it right
No more knitting-induced carpal tunnel that sidelines you for the entire month of January.  No more Christmas Eve all-nighters (because we probably don't need to remind you that you're not 19 anymore.)  No more last-minute, caution-to-the-wind, unrealistic projects that leave you sweating, swearing and wondering whether they'll even like it.   (You can't knit a pair of socks for everyone in your office, your daughter's piano teacher and your husband's boss's brother if you wait until Thanksgiving weekend to start.  We know.  We've tried.)

The holidays, regardless of your specific traditions, are meant to celebrate the sacredness of humankind.  Gift knitting isn't about obligation or about one-upping your sister-in-law.  It really can just be stripped down to this: your two hands making something--big or small--for someone who matters in your life.  A 'thank-you' to the teacher who spends every day with your son--and the person who finally taught him to enjoy reading.  A little something for the neighbor who always waters your plants and picks up your mail while you're on vacation.  Your mother's favorite nurse--the only one who can get her to take her meds.

Without question, our 12 Knits of Christmas is the best it's ever been.  The focus is on gifts that you'll be ecstatic to give, whether it's because they're knit with yarn you've never seen before (they are), they all require less than two weeks to complete (they do) or because they're fresh takes on classic knitted gifts (they will be).

There's more.  (Of course.)  We'll be giving away two outrageous prizes to two very lucky knitters.

1.) For each ambitious customer who purchases ALL 12 kits, you'll be entered into a drawing to win a 12-month subscription to our exclusive Sleeping Bear Yarn Club (a $563.35 value!)

2.) For each kit ordered, you'll be entered into a separate drawing for a $100 gift certificate to Wool & Honey, either in-house or online.  (Ordering 3 of the same kit?  That counts as 3 entries!)

We're honored to be included in the 2014 Fiber Festival located at the Old Art Building in Leland on Friday and Saturday, October 10th & 11th.

The 14th annual Fiber Festival features artists with original fiber art in mediums of paper, wearable art, handbags, weaving, quilts, knits, yarns and fiber sculpture.  The featured artist is Char Bickel.

Friday's opening reception is from 5 to 8 pm and Saturday, the show runs from 10 am to 5 pm.

We'll be featuring many of our designs, exclusive kits, signature colorways...and even a few surprises!
