Meaningful Use Stage 2 Updates
"In August 2012, the Federal Register posted the final rule for the EHR incentive program announcing the Meaningful Use Stage 2 criteria. This final rule includes a few changes to 2013 Stage 1 requirements and reporting periods, in addition to the Stage 2 criteria. Click here
to go to the CMS fact sheet.
The reporting period for 2014 is now a 90-day requirement tied to a calendar quarter, instead of the full year. In addition, the total number of required measures has remained the same. However, there are some differences in the distribution between core and menu sets."

Incentive Program Registration is Important
If you haven't yet received Meningful Use money from Medicaid or Medicare, you may want to read this... However, it has also has become a key indicator for policy and funding decisions related to the Meaningful Use program. " |
Eight Months of Medicaid EHR Incentive Payments
The Nevada Medicaid EHR Incentive Program launched in August 2012 for Eligible Professionals (EPs) and Eligible Hospitals (EHs). The program allows attestation for the Adopt, Implement, or Upgrade (AIU) provision of the Medicaid Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Program. Nevada EPs and EHs slowly began participating with 18 EPs receiving payment in the first 60 days. After the first payments were made, Nevada providers took notice and participation increased. March 31, 2013 marked the end of 8 months of AIU Attestations. In that time, Nevada Medicaid has issued $ 15,455,798 in incentive payments to 133 EPs and 18 EHs in Nevada. |
Disparities in Cardiac Health:
What Can You Do?
"Disparities (whether based on age, gender, race, ethnicity, rural/urban residence) exist in health care. As noted in the most recent National Healthcare Disparities Report, health care quality and access are suboptimal, especially for minority and low-income groups, and these disparities are not improving over time. Just take a look at some the following information from the Utah Department of Health on disparities in heart disease indicators:" |
Medication Adherence:
We Didn't Ask and They Didn't Tell
Marie T. Brown, MD, FACP, and Christine A. Sinsky, MD, FACP
"One of the most effective medical interventions to significantly improve the health of your patients doesn't require the latest technology or expensive medication but simply involves helping them take their existing medication as prescribed.
Increasing the effectiveness of adherence interventions may have a far greater impact on the health of the population than any improvement in specific medical treatments," according to the World Health Organization." |
