Children's Vision Screening Helps Child Read

Thanks so much for this program. Even though the correction needed by Cheyenne is not as life-changing as for some children, this program fills a need that doesn’t exist for many kids.” – PCC Pat Porterfield

As members of the St. Charles Lions club, PCC Pat and PDG Lyn Porterfield are very familiar with the Children’s Vision Screening program, having volunteered at screenings for much of the past decade. When asked about why they volunteer, Pat said, “It’s a program with proven results and is life-altering for those kids we catch. A few hours out of a day to make a difference in the rest of a child’s life – what could be more important than that?”

Lions Sight Week

Lions Sight Week is April 15-20

Lions Sight Week (LSW), to be held April 15-20, 2013, is a week-long observance celebrating the Missouri Lions’ support of the Foundation’s six programs that preserve and restore sight.

You can help us save sight this April in several ways:

1) Volunteer at a Children’s Vision Screening event.
2) Host an organ and eye donor registration drive in your community.
3) Make a financial donation to our mission.

With your support, we hope to break records in community service by screening more than 2,000 children for the leading causes of blindness during LSW. An informational packet will be sent to your Lions club in February. For more information in the meantime, please visit the LSW web page.

Order National Eye Donor Month Materials

Be Someone's Hero : National Eye Donor Month 2013Eye donation really can save a life. This March, during National Eye Donor Month, you can be a hero by supporting eye donation in your community. In 2012, Heartland Lions Eye Banks (HLEB), its hospital partners, and generous donors and donor families saved 2,464 people from a lifetime of blindness. As a Lion, your continued support of eye donation throughout the year helps corneal surgeons and HLEB honor eye donors and rescue the sight of people in your community suffering from eye diseases, disorders, and injuries.

The communications department at the Foundation has created promotional materials to help spread the word this March. If you’d like to help promote NEDM in your community, you can order posters (see image at right) by contacting Clayton Clark at 1-800-283-1982 x115 or cclark@mlerf.org  by 03/01/2012 with the quantity of posters you’d like and an address for shipment.
