SIGHTLINES JANUARY 2013
January is National Glaucoma Awareness Month

Thank you for your continued support! During National Glaucoma Awareness Month in January, the Missouri Lions Eye Research Foundation encourages community organizers to schedule free glaucoma screening events.

January Is National Glaucoma Awareness Month

National Glaucoma Awareness Month is an important reminder for at-risk Missourians to get screened for glaucoma. More than 46,000 Missourians suffer from this degenerative ocular disease that threatens their Glaucoma Awarenesssight and quality of life, yet only half of them know they have it. The Missouri Lions Eye Research Foundation offers free Healthy Vision Screenings to help identify and prevent glaucoma.

Businesses, community organizers, clubs and senior support organizations can help prevent glaucoma in their communities by scheduling Healthy Vision Screenings at their events. Just contact the Foundation at 800-753-2265 x8518 or submit a request online. To learn about upcoming screening events in your area, visit the screenings calendar.

Resolve to Preserve and Restore Sight in 2013

You can make a meaningful New Year’s resolution by establishing a recurring monthly donation to the Missouri Lions Eye Research Foundation and its six sight-Eye Donorsaving programs. Your recurring $25 gift can help the Foundation screen 5 kids each month for blindness-causing diseases such as amblyopia. That means in 2013 you’ll have drastically improved the lives of 6 children by enabling us to detect their vision problems before it’s too late.

Setting up your recurring donation is easy. Visit http://www.mlerf.org/give or call us at 800-753-2265 to schedule your contribution, and it will be automatically drawn each month to support our mission to preserve and restore sight in 2013.

Two Partners of Heartland Lions Eye Banks Featured in 2013 Rose Parade

Eye DonorWe celebrated New Year’s Day by watching the Rose Parade to support two of our hospital partners – Freeman Health System in Joplin, Mo. and University of Missouri Health Care in Columbia, Mo. – that were major contributing sponsors to the Donate Life float. In total, these two hospital systems made 150 dedications to honor organ, eye and tissue donors and people touched by donation at their hospitals in 2012.
