Postal Service Price Change Effective April 11th

Letter Carrier
As presented in the March issue of Delivery Point, the Postal Service will REDUCE its prices for its market-dominant services (i.e. those services that no other organization can provide) on April 10th.

Self-metering customers will need to apply the newly adjusted rates to mail on Monday, April 11, 2016.  New wall charts and service requirements will be posted to iMailConnect.com after the close of business on April 8, 2016.

All self-metering customers will receive reminders about the Postal Service price change via our Service Alert Notification System (SANS) on April 7th, 8th, and 11th.  Please contact us if you have questions about what rates to apply on April 11th.

Stop, Think, and Call Us Before Renewing Your Postage Meter Rental Agreement

If you are like most of our customers with a postage meter, you have a love-hate relationship with your meter vendor.  On the one hand you might love the convenience the postage meter provides, but on the other hand you probably hate the high cost, confusing invoices, and long-term contract.

If you have a postage meter, please consider the following:

We are receiving reports from current self-metering customers that they are being approached by their postage meter vendor to sign renewal contracts extending up to 72 months.  Moreover, customers are being asked to sign the renewal a full year before their current postage meter rental agreement expires.

We encourage all self-metering customers to review their current postage meter rental agreements. Historically, some agreements have a minimum notification period wherein the customer must provide notice of their intent not to renew the agreement at least 180 days prior to the agreement's termination date.  If proper notice is not provided, the customer may be billed monthly until proper notice is provided.

Many of our current self-metering customers are making the decision NOT to renew their meter lease agreement.  Instead these customers are moving to our Premier Post Daily Mail Service.  Premier Post is a value based program designed to eliminate the need for metering equipment, equipment maintenance agreements, ink and tape supplies, and skilled personnel time required to apply postage.  Using this option, Lake Michigan Mailers picks up all non-posted, outbound U.S. mail, weighs, seals and applies discounted postage rates, barcodes, sorts, and submits the mail to the Postal Service for final delivery.  Perhaps the best feature of Premier Post is that it is available without a contract; you are free to start and stop the service as you see fit.  If you would like to find out more about Premier Post, please contact us.

New Features Released April 11th on
imailconnect_white
Our Application Development Team has been hard at work adding enhanced value of iMailConnect.com.  We will perform a platform upgrade to iMailConnect.com after the close of business on Friday, April 8, 2016.  The new version, 8.0 will include a number of enhancements:
  • Customers with administration rights will now be able to add additional users and set their permission levels.
  • New wall charts and service requirements for all Daily Mail Services
Perhaps the coolest of the enhancements is the presentation of the name, and photograph of the driver who will be collecting the customer's mail on that day.  When the regularly schedule driver is replaced by substitute driver due to illness or cross-training, the substitute driver's photo and name will appear on the site.

Sample screen shot.

We will continue to make enhancements to iMailConnect.com in the months ahead.  If you have a suggestion for an improvement to this platform, please contact David Rhoa.

And the Winner is...

We are proud to announce that the winner of the 2016 Lake Michigan Mailers Scholarship has been selected by the Scholarship Application Review Committee. This year's competition was opened to 240 high schools in our regional service area and resulted in the application being downloaded 1,447 times.

The Scholarship Application Review Committee implemented a new, double-blind review process so as to provide an unbiased evaluation of the considerable volume of applications. The process included the use of proprietary software created by Lake Michigan Mailers' programmers specifically for scholarship evaluation.

We would like to offer a special word of thanks to all of the high school guidance counselors for promoting the scholarship to their students and encouraging their application.

This year's winner will receive a one-time scholarship of $2,000 to pursue a major of business, business management, or entrepreneurship at any four-year college or university in the United States.

The winner of the 2016 Lake Michigan Mailers Scholarship.... will be announced officially in May of this year. Sorry for the tease. We just couldn't resist.
