The Most Famous Illegal Goose Creek Parade

by Virginia Smith

Virginia Smith is the bestselling author of twenty-four novels, an illustrated children's book, and over fifty articles and short stories. An avid reader with eclectic tastes in fiction, Ginny writes in a variety of styles, from lighthearted relationship stories to breath-snatching suspense. Her books have been finalists in ACFW's Carol Award, the Daphne du Maurier Award of Excellence in Mystery/Suspense, the Maggie Awards, and the National Reader's Choice Awards. Two of her novels have received the Holt Medallion Award of Merit. Learn more about Ginny and her books at www.virginiasmith.org

Welcome, Ginny. If you could have dinner with one person from today or history (except Jesus) who would it be?

I would choose to have dinner with my father, who passed away several years ago. He was such an incredible man, a real entrepreneur who launched several successful businesses before suffering a debilitating stroke in his mid-forties. He was paralyzed for over twenty years before he breathed his last. I miss him!

Please tell us a little about your novel, The Most Famous Illegal Goose Creek Parade.

I'm so excited about this book! It's the first in a new series. Here's the back cover description:

In this first book of the Tales from the Goose Creek B&B, you'll fall in love with a small town that feels like coming home. Its quirky characters and their many shenanigans will make you laugh out loud as they touch a place in your heart.

Even though retirement is still three years away, Al Richardson is counting the days. He anticipates many enjoyable years in which every day feels like Saturday. But Al's wife, Millie, has different plans for their retirement. When she learns that a Victorian-era home is up for sale, Millie launches a full-blown campaign to convince Al that God's plan for them is to turn that house into a B&B.

But a B&B won't be the only change for the small Kentucky town. A new veterinarian has hung up her shingle, but she's only got one patient--the smelly dog belonging to her part-time receptionist. And sides are being taken in the issue of the water tower, which needs a new coat of paint...but no one can agree who should paint it.

The situation is coming to a head. Who could have imagined a town protest over a water tower? And who would believe it could culminate in an illegal parade?

Get lost in a novel that reminds you why you love reading.

What takeaway value do you want your readers to have?

This book is pure entertainment. I want readers to laugh and feel good. But of course there are gems of wisdom here and there, and times when I hope they'll say, "Aw! I love that!"

Where can readers find you online?

I'm at www.virginiasmith.org. And I'm really active on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/ginny.p.smith

Unfortunately, they can't buy it yet! It won't come out until September. But it's available for pre-sale at all the online retailers:

Christianbook.com

Barnes and Noble

Books-a-Million

Any parting comment?

What Am I Reading?
What

I recently read The Hidden Son (The Cayman Islands Trilogy Book 1) by Dianna T. Benson. This book was a barrel of twists and turns. Dianna Benson, an EMT and a HazMat and FEMA Operative in EMS for a decade, authentically implements her firsthand medical and rescue knowledge and experience along with great descriptions of setting to keep you turning pages. When U.S. DEA Special Agent Lelisa Desmond refuses to follow an order to bury evidence in a high profile case, her superior inexplicably hires a hit man to kill her. Lelisa sets off on a daring mission to bring down the man who ordered her execution. A man in a high position, with powerful friends. A man who will stop at nothing to protect his son. The story moves between the tropical waters of the Cayman Islands to North Carolina with breathtaking suspense and a touch of romance. A good read.

Two ninety year old men, Joe and Sam, have been friends all their lives. It seems that Sam is dying, and Joe comes to visit him every day.

"Sam," says Joe, "You know how we have both loved baseball all our lives, and how we played minor league ball together for so many years. Sam, you have to do me one favor. When you get to Heaven, and I know you will go to Heaven, somehow you've got to let me know if there's baseball in Heaven."

Sam looks up at Joe from his death bed, and says, "Joe, you've been my best friend many years. If it is at all possible, I'll do this favor for you." And shortly after that, Sam passes on.

It is midnight a couple of nights later. Joe is sound asleep when he is awakened by a blinding flash of white light and a voice calls out to him, "Joe.... Joe...."

"Who is it?" says Joe sitting up suddenly. "Who is it?"

"Joe, it's me, Sam."

"Come on. You're not Sam. Sam just died."

"I'm telling you," insists the voice. "It's me, Sam!"

"Sam? Is that you? Where are you?"

"I'm in heaven," says Sam, "and I've got to tell you, I've got really good news and a little bad news."

"So, tell me the good news first," says Joe.

"The good news," says Sam "is that there is baseball in heaven. Better yet, all our old buddies who've gone before us are there. Better yet, we're all young men again. Better yet, it's always spring time and it never rains or snows. And best of all, we can play baseball all we want, and we never get tired!"

"Really?" says Joe, "That is fantastic, wonderful beyond my wildest dreams! But, what's the bad news?"

"You're pitching next Tuesday."
