The Midwife's Legacy
by Trish Perry and others
Our newsletter guest is Trish Perry. Welcome, Trish.
Award-winning novelist Trish Perry has written The Midwife's Legacy (Barbour Publishing, 2012) with three fellow authors, as well as Tea for Two (2011), The Perfect Blend (2010), Sunset Beach (2009), Beach Dreams (2008), Too Good to be True (2007), and The Guy I'm Not Dating (2006) for Harvest House Publishers. Her 2011 releases for Summerside Press are Unforgettable, Love Finds You on Christmas Morning (with Debby Mayne), and two devotionals, including Delight Yourself in the Lord (Even on Bad Hair Days), with four other notable authors.
Her monthly column, "Real Life is Stranger," appeared in
Christian Fiction Online Magazine during its inaugural year.
She was editor of Ink and the Spirit, the newsletter of Washington D.C.'s Capital Christian Writers organization (CCW), for seven years. Before her novels, Perry published numerous short stories, essays, devotionals, and poetry in Christian and general market media.
Perry holds a B.A. in Psychology, was a 1980s stockbroker, and held positions at the Securities and Exchange Commission and in several Washington law firms. If you could have dinner with one person from today or history (except Jesus) who would it be?
I'm impressed with Dr. Ben Carson. He spoke at my son's college graduation in May, and I've heard him speak a number of other times in the past. He's accomplished and humble, he's unafraid of taking the unpopular stance if he believes it's the right one, and he makes a lot of sense. I think he'd be a very interesting dinner companion.
Please tell us a little about your novel, The Midwife's Legacy.
I've actually been on a bit of a writing sabbatical for the past couple of years, while I repositioned myself in the daytime workforce. I'm now looking to return to my writing, but I'll tell you briefly about the last book I released, The Midwife's Legacy. The book is actually a set of four novellas, written with Jane Kirkpatrick, Rhonda Gibson, and Pamela Griffin. I really love this book, as it begins in 1859 and works its way to my story (Labor of Love), set in current times. The four midwives featured are related to each other, so the reader watches a lovely time connection develop as she reads.
What takeaway value do you want your readers to have?
One facet of this book is a journal started by Jane's heroine, Adele, and passed along to each of the heroines in the collection. My heroine, Kendra, is blessed at a time of crisis by finding and reading the words of her ancestors. I suppose you could say the takeaway value I hope readers have is a realization that the words we speak and write are important. The messages and advice we share today can serve as blessings for many generations to come.

Thanks so much for featuring me and Midwife's Legacy, Jo! I hope to have new projects to talk about later this year, so it's been a pleasure "talking writing" again.
Trish, thank you for visiting with my readers and me. On June 25 I will draw from among current subscribers to my newsletter for the winner of a copy of Midwife's Legacy which you graciously offered.

On June 25, I'll draw a winner from current subscribers for a copy of The Midwife's Legacy by Trish Perry and others.
---------- I've recently read Love Redeemed by Kelly Irvin, Harvest House, 2014, 347 pages. When Phoebe Christner's Amish friends and family spend a week at the lake, her excitement rises that Michael Daugherty will take notice of her. When a tragic accident happens, everyone blames themselves, including Phoebe and Michael. Those who blame themselves bring about friction and misunderstandings between them and those they love. They ask for God's forgiveness and receive it. But can they forgive themselves? Can they forget the tragedy that affects them all? Good characterization, excellent settings and descriptions, and a story that grips the reader from beginning to end. Irvin is a superb writer of Amish stories.

Clean Chuckle |

A DEA Agent stopped at a ranch in Texas and talked to an old rancher. He told the rancher, "I need to inspect your ranch for illegally grown drugs." The rancher said, "Okay, but don't go into that field over there...", as he pointed out the location.
The DEA Agent verbally exploded and said, "Look mister, I have the authority of the federal government with me!" Reaching into his rear back pocket, the arrogant officer removed his badge and proudly displayed it to the rancher. "See this badge?! This badge means I can go wherever I want... On any land! No questions asked, no answers given! Do you understand, old man?!" The rancher kindly nodded, apologized, and went about his chores. Moments later the rancher heard loud screams, he looked up and saw the DEA agent running for his life, being chased by the rancher's big Santa Gertrudis Bull...... With every step the bull was gaining ground on the officer, and it was likely that he'd sure enough get gored before he reached safety. The officer was clearly terrified. The old rancher threw down his tools, ran as fast as he could to the fence, and yelled at the top of his lungs...... "YOUR BADGE! SHOW HIM YOUR BADGE!"

by Jo Huddleston You come to love not by finding the perfect person, but by seeing an imperfect person perfectly. -Sam Keen Do you know how many creams are on the market to fight facial wrinkles? Also about remedies to re-grow hair on bald men? Apparently women and men want to look like they appeared twenty years ago. Few of us can do that. We age and with age come changes. We sometimes look in a mirror and don't like what we see. We're not perfect. Those who love us--family or others--overlook our flaws. Instead we look fine to them. Our loved ones don't expect perfection in us and we don't look for perfection in them. It's love that helps us to see past imperfections. It's love that helps us to enjoy being with imperfect people. Can you see an imperfect person perfectly? I hope you can. We could all practice the quotation above. Can you look in the mirror, see an imperfect person, and love what you are perfectly? I believe doing so might remove much stress from our lives. Let's try doing this.
