Sundin Sarah Sundin is our guest today. Sarah is one of my favorite authors--I love her stories and characters! Her next book, In Perfect Time, will come out in August and we'll talk about it below. However, Sarah will give away a copy of her last book,
On Distant Shores.

Sarah Sundin is the author of On Distant Shores and With Every Letter in the Wings of the Nightingale series from Revell, and also the Wings of Glory series (A Distant Melody, A Memory Between Us, and Blue Skies Tomorrow). In 2011, A Memory Between Us was a finalist in the Inspirational Reader's Choice Awards and Sarah received the Writer of the Year Award at the Mount Hermon Christian Writers Conference. Sarah lives in northern California with her husband and three children. When she isn't ferrying kids to tennis and karate, she works on-call as a hospital pharmacist and teaches Sunday school and women's Bible studies. She belongs to American Christian Fiction Writers, Christian Authors Network, and Advanced Writers and Speakers Association.

Welcome,Sarah. Please tell us a little about your novel, In Perfect Time.

In Perfect Time, the third book in the Wings of the Nightingale series, comes out in August 2014. World War II flight nurse Lt. Kay Jobson collects hearts wherever she flies, but C-47 pilot Lt. Roger Cooper is immune to her charms. Throughout Italy and southern France, as she evacuates the wounded and he delivers paratroopers and supplies, every beat of their hearts draws them where they don't want to go.

 

What takeaway value do you want your readers to have?

In Perfect Time is all about learning to accept God's gifts in our lives. Because of her past, Kay doesn't feel she deserves God's gift of mercy. Meanwhile, although Roger accepts God's mercy, he doesn't feel worthy of further blessings. In my own life-and in the lives of friends-I've often seen how the Lord holds a gift out to us with open hands and no conditions, but we reject it. This can stem from insecurity, pride, fear, or shame-and yet our lives would be so much richer if we accepted those gifts.

 

If you could have dinner with one person from today or history (except Jesus) who would it be?

I'd love to meet journalist and columnist Ernie Pyle. His writings from the front lines in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy bring that time period to life. Despite his fame, he insisted on living with the troops in the foxholes and mud, eating K rations, and dodging shells. He talked to the greatest generals and to the GIs in the field-and brought out the humanity in all.

I've recently read Friend Me by John Faubion, Howard Books, 2014, 335 pages. John Faubion writes a contemporary story full of futuristic aspects and does it well. Friend Me tells about a tired wife surrounded by dirty dishes, laundry, and two small children. Her husband, Scott, often works late, is exhausted, and needs to talk about his concerns at work. Rachael truly doesn't understand his work or why he must put in so many hours. They each need someone to talk to but neither can fulfill that need for the other. Through an internet ad Rachael discovers virtualfriendme.com and learns that she can create a virtual friend she can talk with anytime through her computer. Given a choice, she decides to create her best and deceased friend, Suzanne, by describing her to the introducer on the website. Scott secretly learns what Rachael has done and decides he needs a virtual friend. Sfcott chooses to create a female friend, which gears the plot into overdrive. This book races with suspense and throughout presents a clear Christian worldview. A good read.

One day a florist went to a barber for a haircut. 
After the cut, he asked about his bill, and the barber replied, "I cannot accept money from you, I'm doing community service this week." The florist was pleased and left the shop.

 

 When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a thank you card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.

 

Later, a cop comes in for a haircut and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replied, "I cannot accept money from you , I'm doing community service this week."
The cop was happy and left the shop.

 

The next morning when the barber went to open up,
there was a thank you card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.

 

Then a Congressman came in for a haircut and when he went to pay his bill, the barber again replied, I cannot accept money from you. I'm doing community service this week." The Congressman was very happy and left the shop.

 

The next morning, when the barber went to open up, there were a dozen Congressmen lined up waiting for a free haircut.

 

And that, my friends, illustrates the fundamental difference between the citizens of our country and the politicians who run it.

 

BOTH POLITICIANS AND DIAPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN.

A Smile

If you've read me for very long, you've already seen the following sentence. My daddy told me that if I saw a person without a smile, give them one of mine. That works. In a store, on a bus, etc. if you encounter a grouchy person, more times than not if you give them a smile you will get one from them in return.

 

Exchanging a smile with you will most probably help the person's attitude to become more positive. As Ms. Angelou in the quote above said, "people will never forget how you made them feel." With only a smile from you, a person's feelings could be uplifted. They won't "forget how you made them feel."
