TEACHER OF THE MONTH:
Deborah Pyrkosz
Voice & Piano
1. What is the thing you like most about teaching?
Two things: figuring out the best way to help a student reach the next level and being introduced to new music and techniques.
2. How do you inspire students to practice more?
Mostly, I remind them that consistent practice is the only way to improve their skill. You can learn musical concepts once a week, but the muscles in your hands and body learn from doing.
3. Where did you get your degree/certificate from?
Eastern Michigan University
4. What is your favorite type of music?
I like a lot of different music, but I prefer classic rock and "world"/"new age" music.
5. Tell us about any music musical projects you may be working on?
There are a few piano solos I'm practicing just for fun: MacGyver's theme song and Clair de Lune.
6. If you could give a quick tip for guitarists, what would it be?
If there is a section of music giving you trouble when you practice, slow down and practice a little part at a time, even if it's just 2 notes.
