June, July and August are a great time to continue with private lessons. It's easy to forget most of what you learned throughout the year if you take too much time off. Music is a year round study for serious students. Many students will increase lesson time or schedule twice weekly while they are out of school. Private or group make-up lessons will be available to help you work around your busy schedule.

TEACHER OF THE MONTH:
NEAL WARNER
1. What is the thing you like most about teaching?
The thing I like most about teaching is the ability to share the knowledge and experience I've gained as a musician. Creating music will always be the greatest passion of my life, and there is a certain sense of accomplishment when you have the opportunity to pass that information along to someone, in the hopes that they too discover a great passion for music.
2. How do you inspire students to practice more?
I inspire my students to practice more by guiding them towards what they want to learn. Each student is asked to come in with a piece of music or song that they want to be able to play. Most times, this song will be much more difficult than any of the exercises that we are working on in the curriculum, which makes the student realize that the harder we work, the easier things will get. This pushes them to practice more and more to achieve their goal.
3. Where did you get your degree/certificate from?
I received my Bachelor's of Music in Contemporary Writing and Production from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts.
4. What is your favorite type of music?
It's extremely difficult to pick one type of music. Most of my students won't believe it, but I am a metal head. My favorite artists are Devin Townsend and Steve Vai. I do enjoy many other genres of music as well.
5. Tell us about any music musical projects you may be working on?
As of today, I'm not currently working on any other musical projects. That could change tomorrow. One of the many reasons why I love being a musician; something unexpected could come up at any time. In the past I have worked as a freelance contractor for different clients creating musical themes and sound effects for video games and iPhone applications, and I have performed in various shows and musicals. I also plan on returning to school to get my Master's in Composition sometime next year.
6. If you could give a quick tip for guitarists, what would it be?
Practice, practice, and then practice some more. Don't be discouraged if you aren't able to do something; just keep practicing and you will eventually get the hang of it. Nothing worth having ever came easy. That phrase definitely applies to playing guitar.
